Some love stories arrive with a grand gesture. Others unfold quietly and become something even more powerful. For Francesca and Lachlan, it began as friendship.
Meeting during university orientation, the pair formed an effortless connection from the start. What Francesca initially thought was simply a great friendship soon revealed itself to be something deeper, especially when Lachlan made the first move just a month later.
From that moment on, their relationship grew naturally, grounded in ease, laughter and an undeniable sense that they had found their person.
The Surprise Country Proposal
Lachlan’s proposal was as thoughtful as it was heartfelt.
With the help of a close friend, he orchestrated the moment at a countryside home, carefully planning every detail and capturing it all on camera. Completely unaware, Francesca was taken by surprise when Lachlan got down on one knee.
The emotion, the setting, the intimacy of it all, it was everything.
And of course, she said yes.
A Vision of Whimsical Romance
From the outset, Francesca envisioned a wedding filled with florals, softness and a sense of whimsical romance layered with modern elegance.
Pinterest became her creative guide, helping her shape a celebration that felt both elevated and deeply personal. The goal wasn’t just to create something beautiful, but to design an experience, one where guests could relax, connect, and truly enjoy the day.
After a two-year engagement, the couple brought their vision to life together, a process Francesca describes as one of the most rewarding parts of the journey.
Set within the breathtaking surrounds of Hunter Valley Gardens, their ceremony felt like stepping into a storybook.
Francesca had always dreamed of an outdoor wedding, but with a refined, elegant feel rather than something rustic. She had long imagined saying her vows in front of a beautiful filled gazebo so when she discovered the lakeside pavilion, she instantly knew it was the one.
The venue also delivered the “wow” factor the couple had been searching for. Wanting something that would truly set their wedding apart, Francesca and Lachlan were drawn to the unique charm of the gardens, with its unexpected carnival rides adding a playful, unforgettable touch to the day.
With the support of their stylist, florist and venue team, the reception space was transformed into a romantic floral dream rich in texture, candlelight and atmosphere.
The Dress Moment
Francesca found her gown at Brides of Beecroft though it wasn’t what she had imagined.
“I always thought I’d wear something sparkly and fitted,” she says. “But the very first dress I tried on completely changed my mind.”
The satin ballgown featured a timeless silhouette, a dramatic train and delicate buttons cascading down the back. The moment she stepped into it, everything clicked.
“I almost cried.”
Even after exploring other options, nothing compared to that first feeling. It was, without question, the one.
Bridal Beauty
Francesca’s beauty look embraced soft femininity with a polished, modern edge.
After completing hair and makeup trials, she felt confident and completely herself, something she strongly recommends to other brides.
“Do the trial, and don’t be afraid to speak up,” she says. “You want to feel like the best version of you.”
A Ceremony Full of Personality
The ceremony was filled with heartfelt moments, laughter and meaningful personal touches.
A standout moment came from Lachlan’s grandfather, who began with a traditional Irish poem before surprising guests with a playful song bringing a lightness and joy that perfectly reflected the couple.
For Francesca, however, the most emotional moment was walking down the aisle.
“That feeling seeing Lachlan waiting there it’s something I’ll never forget.”
The couple also wrote their own vows, adding depth and authenticity to the ceremony.
And in a fun, unexpected twist, they concluded proceedings with celebratory shots shared with their guests a perfect reflection of their relaxed, joyful spirit.
Romantic Reception Styling
As the day turned to evening, the reception unfolded in a warm glow of candlelight and florals.
Long tapered candles in vintage holders created an intimate atmosphere, while arrangements of hydrangeas and daisies brought a fresh, whimsical garden feel to each table.
The menu featured classic favourites, with beef and chicken mains, complemented by signature cocktails including a Whiskey Sour and French Martini.
Every detail struck the perfect balance: elegant yet inviting, styled yet effortless.
A Dance Full of Memories
For their first dance, Francesca and Lachlan chose Iris by Goo Goo Dolls, a song rich with personal meaning.
“We once danced to it together on New Year’s Eve,” Francesca shares. “It just felt like us.”
Romantic, nostalgic and quietly joyful it was the perfect soundtrack to their first moments as newlyweds.
Moments They’ll Never Forget
Among the many highlights, Lachlan’s grandfather once again delighted guests this time with an Irish jig tune that had everyone smiling.
But one of the most meaningful moments came away from the celebration.
After their photos and before the reception began, the couple took a quiet moment together a pause to breathe, reflect and take it all in.
“In the middle of everything, it was just us.”
Advice for Future Brides
Looking back, Francesca’s advice is simple and powerful.
“Focus on what truly matters.”
Rather than getting caught up in expectations or the pressure of a traditional “big white wedding,” she encourages couples to create a day that genuinely reflects who they are.
“If it feels like you, you’ll never regret it.”
And if the budget allows, she recommends investing in convenience, something that can transform the entire experience.
Because in the end, the most unforgettable weddings aren’t just beautiful.
They’re deeply personal.
They’re filled with love.
And they feel entirely your own.
