One of my favourite iPhone apps right now is Hipstamatic, a photo application that tinges your photographs with the nostalgic and lens-flared look of shots taken in the late 60s and early 70s. There’s definitely a romantic hippie chic moment happening in fashion, and it makes sense that wedding themes will follow. So I thought I’d jump the gun and get all you groovy girls inspired with peace, love and flowers.
The perfect hippie wedding gown is long and flowing, but by no means overdone or princessy. Think empire line, natural fabrics, or even bohemian bell-sleeve. Hair is worn out and long, parted in the centre or braided through the front. Headpieces must be simple and natural: a circlet of fresh daisies, braided ribbons worn across the forehead, or for a longer lasting look, try a headpiece made of silk flowers. Makeup is minimal and au naturale, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a freshly scrubbed face. Use a light-weight foundation or tinted mosturiser, curl your lashes and apply lots of mascara for a fresh, wide-eyed gaze. Apply a natural coloured lip tint and blush to the apples of your cheeks for that healthy “I’ve-been-outdoors-and-had-lots-of-fresh-air” glow.

In terms of jewellery, think love beads, long earrings with semi-precious stones, feathers or floral themes. Live up to your flower-child nature with lashings of fresh flowers, but keep it simple. No complex arrangements or exotic lilies, just groups of fresh flowers in jam jars or mismatched op shop vases. Consider having your reception outdoors and embrace the true beauty of mother nature: barefoot in a field or on the beach. Indulge your guests in a luscious chocolate cake, laden with fresh fruit and flowers, or update the classic white wedding cake with iced flowers and creeping vines.
