Inspired to Trash the Dress

Modern Wedding Posted: September 22, 2011

There’s something so carefree, spirited and joyful about trashing your wedding dress. Don’t get me wrong, mine is safe in a box at the top of my wardrobe, but oh! I wish I’d had the guts to trash it. I really admire those girls that are free-spirited enough to jump in a fountain, throw some paint around or wander dramatically into the ocean in their wedding dresses. And what spectacular photographs they create!

The last few days of gorgeous warm sunny weather have had me longing for the ocean… So it’s with a twinkle in my eye and a little skip in my step that I share this gorgeous inspirational seaside shoot from UK-based Photographer Jess Petrie. I hope it washes over you and fills you with serenity, beauty and an overwhelming desire to run and jump in the nearest body of water (with a photographer close at hand.)

Of her unique shoot, Photographer Jess Petrie said “I had a styled bridal shoot in mind where I would have the most stunning dress, take the styled bride wearing it to the sea and completely trash it, leaving the viewer in astonishment! I chose to shoot at Filey Bay (on the Yorkshire Coast) because it’s somewhere I used to visit often with my grandparents as a child, I have a lot of good memories here.  The sand is very soft and golden and the beach stretches right out, as far as you can see.  There are a lot of stunning views with the cliffs at either end, and of course the North Sea. The shoot went well with the trashing of the dress, dramatic nature and artistic creation behind the whole thing.  I suppose you have to see the art in it to really appreciate it; a bit like you would a painting or a composed piece by Vivaldi.”

Beautiful work Jess! Both artistic and inspirational, I hope this series of stunning images will inspire you all. Whether it’s to take advantage of your spectacular surroundings, the lovely weather or to trash your wedding dress.

The talented team who brought this shoot to life:
