What You Need To Know About Sending Your Save The Dates

A save-the-date notice or invitation is the first glimpse your guests will get of your wedding. It acts as a notification, including all the date, time and location information, but perhaps just as importantly, it entices your guests, creating anticipation and excitement.

Here are a few top tips to get you on the right track:

1. Understand your vision and budget
There are simply some styles and types of stationery that are more expensive than others. However, your wedding stationery is like a herald announcing your impending wedding, so it’s worth investing in the best quality stationery you can afford.

2. Engage a stationery designer who understands your vision

Start by finding stationery designers whose work you like and who share a similar aesthetic to you. If you’re looking for something specific, check out each designer’s portfolio and engage the services of someone who does what you want well.

3. Communicate what you love
Whether it’s a Pinterest board filled with images that speak to your heart, or a scrapbook full of your favourite things, it’s imperative that you can communicate your likes, dislikes and personal style to your stationery designer.

4. Share the details
Designers may match the lace on your gown, or hunt down a specific shade of pink ribbon to complement the bridesmaids’ dresses. All the elements that you have so carefully selected can influence the design of the wedding stationery.

5. Be mindful of production times
Most designers recommend ordering your stationery about five months out from the big day – a little longer if you need to send it overseas. This allows time for quotes to be advised and samples to be made. The best way to ensure your invitations will be ready to send in plenty of time is to have all your guests’ details, including names and addresses, supplied to the stationery designer.
