It is one of Australia’s most prestigious photographic accolades. Highly coveted and respected. On Monday night in Melbourne, the winners of the Canon AIPP Professional Photographer of the Year 2012 Awards were announced. Sydney Photographer Adam Pretty took the top honour for his stunning images, along with the 2012 AIPP Australian Sports Photographer of the Year award as well.
One of Modern Wedding’s favourite photographers, Ryan Schembri of XSiGHT Photography and Video Sydney was honoured with the prestigious ‘AIPP Australian Wedding Photographer of the Year 2012’ award for his incredible wedding photography and artistic style, which makes for some dramatic wedding images (and honestly always has us swooning!)

“The interest in the Canon AIPP APPAs continues to grow each year,” said AIPP Executive Officer, Mr Peter Myers. “Again this year, the awards have received a record number of entries from photographers around the country. This year more than 850 photographers submitted over 3,100 images.”
Judging of the images is conducted by some of Australia’s most recognised photographers, with each of the thousands of images entered critiqued in detail over a rigorous three day period.
Now in its 36th year, the Canon AIPP Professional Photographer Awards attracts a prize pool of more than $40,000 in cash and prizes, including the grand prize – $20,000 worth of Canon EOS professional digital camera equipment.
The AIPP is Australia’s leading professional photographic membership organisation, which supports photographers throughtout all stages of their professional development and seeks to promote excellence within the field of photography.
We love that wedding photography is beginning to incoporate even more artistic and dramatic techniques to create wedding memories that last a lifetime, as well as capturing those ‘in the moment’ snaps and important family photographs that all go together to make up your wedding album.
