Beautinspiration!

Modern Wedding Posted: April 28, 2011

‘Here at Modern Wedding we are hard at work on our annual hair and beauty bible, the aptly named Modern Hair+Beauty magazine! My desk is overflowing with new season samples, and my inbox is positively brimming with breathtaking new season looks. Sometimes choosing your beauty look is one of the hardest decisions to make. You still want to look like yourself, but you want to look like the best possible version of yourself. Glowing, luminous, primped and pampered… all without looking like you’ve tried too hard!

As a little treat to help you recover from the shock of being back at work after a super-long long weekend, I thought I’d share some gorgeous beautinspiration with you to help you put together a beauty look that’s both up-to-date and timeless.

Glamour: Start with flawless skin. Add a soft, neutral eye shadow like taupe, caramel or white and a slick of the blackest liquid liner. Lots of lashes, and for the true sirens among you, a bold red lip! Iconic.

Bronzed Beauty: Get your glow on with bronzed and contoured cheeks, bronze and gold eye shadows and shimmery golden gloss. To really make your eyes pop, use a black liner right along the lash line on the inner and outer lids. For an absolutely flawless foundation, consider airbrushing! Time to shine.

A Pop of Colour: If you’re feeling a little adventurous or you want a look that’s a bit more edgy, add a pop of colour to your eyes or lips. Hot pink is hot hot hot right now!

The New Natural: A favourite among brides for that luminous “I always look like this” pretty finish. Start with a light foundation or tinted moisturiser, choose colours that mirror your natural skin tone – pinks and bronzes are popular. Ask the experts to help out for a long-lasting natural look. And always pop on a little more blush than you normally would, to ensure that healthy glow shows up in the photographs.

The Smoky Eye: for a hint of sexiness and subtle “look at me” seduction, a smoky eye is always classic. It draws attention to those beautiful eyes of yours! Start by emphasising your natural eye colour (by using shades that are similar to, or the direct opposite of, your eye colour) and add shades of chocolate, charcoal and loads of black liner and mascara for a truly alluring gaze. Lips should remain fairly neutral to keep the attention on your eyes.

Sophisticated Romance: Hair and Makeup is swinging back to the sophistication and style of the 1940s and 50s. Think of icons like Veronica Lake, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. A softly styled up-do and beautiful, but soft, makeup. Perfectly sculpted brows, soft gold or beige eye shadow and strong liner, along with glossy pink lips is the epitome of a sophisticated look. Love.
