Design your Day – Your Wedspiration Workbook

#wedspiration workbook

For 2018, wedding styling is getting innovative, individual and ingenious. We’re taming the trends so that you can embrace your uniqueness.  These are the freshest and finest ideas ready to make your day.

Wedding style for the next 12 months is all about pushing the boundaries, thinking outside the box and transcending tradition. It’s time to bin the cookie cutter and create something that’s utterly, unmistakably you. Whether that means switching classic white linen and tableware for romantic, textured fabrics in dreamy tones and sumptuous gold charger plates, or foregoing the formal soirée in favour of a more relaxed celebration: it’s all about getting inspired, being creative and making it yours.

We’ve enlisted the assistance of some of Australia’s Top 25 Wedding Stylists (check out Modern Wedding Styling Handbook for more on this) to offer their tips, techniques and unique ideas on taking five of the most popular wedding themes right now and making them special, individual and personal.

Country design trends

“Country weddings can be some of the most beautiful and inventive of all. It’s the mix of informality and elegance. Think dried flowers, wheat, beautiful barns, country fête style games and fresh lemonade.”  – Kelly-Louise Phillips, Kelly-Louise Weddings

“I think hanging installations will continue to be a feature along with lots of greenery and native flowers in centrepieces and table styling.” – Miriam Avery, Chic Rustique

Romantic design trends

“Romantic styling is all about layering and draping, textured silks, tulles and velvets are a must. If you want a colour pop then keep it in the warm tones of plum, pink or burgundy. Be sure to mix lots of shades within these tones so there aren’t any high contrasts in the colour scheme.” – Melissa Kuti, Oak & Linden

Boho design trends

“Strings of festoons, basket lights and a chill out zone. Feature a combination of antique velvet lounges, wicker furniture, marble coffee tables, retro tassel rugs and throw pillows, and bursts of gem coloured blooms.” – Jerin-Lei Malacrida, Bohemian Blooms

“Grazing stations are a great addition, along with craft beer and cocktail bars. Donut walls are a popular choice right now too!” – Nicole Ritchie, Beautiful Weddings

Luxe design trends

“Luxe styling is all about rich and decadent décor. Blooms spilling out of gold urns onto tables or dark striking colours like burgundy and black in textiles and tableware.” – Jess Griffiths, Lace Petals & Hearts

“Styling elements with sparkle, metallic elements and stand out features. Think  lush flower walls, opulent centrepieces and elegant décor.” – Jason Kates, Love 2 Love

Indie design trends

“Look for non-traditional spaces like old warehouses or art galleries.  Dress them up with bold and contrasting colour palettes, and design features such as food stations and lounge areas.” – Darlene Vanderkemp, Peonies Boutique Weddings

“Think big wooden dance floors and eat-your-heart-out kind of grazing tables. No seating arrangements, no agenda. Just plenty of good food, wine and joyous spirits all around.”  – Jess Griffiths, Lace Petals & Hearts

Your wedding should reflect you and your beloved in every detail. Feel free to break the rules and transcend tradition. Trends can be welcomed, ignored, or picked and chosen from. And wedding styles can be flexed, fused or smashed together to create something that speaks to you. “For too long, weddings have had a format,” says Kirstyn Tate of IGBY Productions. “It is ok to steer away from this and do your own thing! We think it’s just as important to incorporate your own traditions and your modern lifestyle.”

Ultimately, the most innovative, individual and ingenious style of all will be one that’s uniquely you.
