Our bride blogger, Alicia, is back for installment 8 on the Modern Wedding blog! There’s a wedding planned, but where are the invitations?
Our wedding day is fast approaching with only 10 weeks to go (with Christmas right smack bang in the middle)!
All of our main items are booked and our deposits paid. Our venue, celebrant, band, cars, flowers, bride’s dress, bridal party attire. I am glad we booked as many things as possible quite early on, because recently we have hit a bit of a delay. Let me tell you, it pays to be as organised as possible in the first 6 months, just in case life throws one of its little doozies at you!
We had to move out of our rented apartment this month. It wasn’t our choice and certainly not the best timing, and finding a new place to live, pack up and move has taken up a lot of time (as it always does). The one wedding related item that has suffered the most from this delay has been our invitations. We would have liked to have had our wedding invitations out 3-4 months prior to the wedding, but it looks as though it will be 2 months prior at the earliest.
But we did one good thing, and we knew very early that we would like DIY wedding invitations. It would save on cost, we enjoy craft and stationery, and we liked the idea of the personal touch that DIY offered. Knowing that DIY would take a bit of time, we sent out a Save the Date email or SMS as early as possible.
And hopefully this has given people enough notice and they have marked it in their calendar!
One problem I did not foresee is some of our guests who have booked their flights to arrive on the same day as our wedding… without first checking what time our ceremony is. A few of our guests will cut it quite fine. II have decided that this is out of my control, and as long as my fiancé, myself and our immediate families are there then everyone else can work themselves out!
We are looking at DIY invitation guides and templates this week, and so far nothing has grabbed our fancy yet. What did you do for your invitations? Have you DIY’d, or did you find a great supplier? Any advice is very very welcome at this stage! 🙂
