DIY World Globe Wedding Decoration

Modern Wedding Posted: July 19, 2017

G L O B A L   S E N T I M E N T

Bring the destination wedding to you with this lovely DIY world globe! Whether your wedding is at home or abroad, this DIY world globe project is ideal for a travel themed celebration. Transform a world globe into a bespoke work of art, suited for table centrepieces and reception décor. Enjoy our worldly wedding inspiration for globe-trotters, wandering gipsies and travelling romantics.

DIY World Globe

Globes are no longer just for expanding your knowledge of the world, they can also be used to create a bespoke art work. This DIY world globe project will show you how an old school globe can be painted and transformed into a canvas for decoration. The result: a beautiful memento that can be displayed at your wedding and to have as a keepsake.

  • One globe
  • White acrylic undercoat
  • Acrylic top coat
  • Gold spray paint
  • Mod podge
  • Decorative paper
  • Small pair of scissors
  • Baking paper
  • Gold calligraphy pen
  • HB graphite pencil

DIY World Globe Step 1

O N E

Remove the globe from its stand and paint with an acrylic white undercoat. Once dry, apply two top-coats of acrylic paint in the colour of your choice. Leave to dry between each coat.

T W O

Paint the stand with the gold spray paint. Leave to dry before applying a second coat.

DIY World Globe Step 3

T H R E E

Cut out the individual decals for the globe from the decorative paper.

F O U R

Write your wording onto a piece of blank paper. Cut the wording into small sections to make it easier to trace onto the round surface of the globe. Evenly scribble the underside of each piece of paper with HB pencil and gently trace the wording onto the globe. Do this as light as possible in case you need to correct it. The pencil will wipe off the surface with a damp cloth.

DIY World Globe Step 4

When you are happy with the text, go over the outline with the gold calligraphy pen to complete. Leave to dry thoroughly.

S I X

Attach the decorative decals to the globe with Mod Podge and leave to dry.

DIY World Globe Final Product

Optional step: Cover the globe with a protective sealant in your choice of gloss, satin or matte finish.
