A S H L E I G H & B R O D I E
Yesterday we shared the story of Ashleigh’s beautiful Essense of Australia dress which she won through a competition we held on our Facebook page. Today we look at all the little details that made her day!
F R O M T H E B R I D E . . .
We first met…
Brodie and I actually met on facebook, believe it or not. He even thanked Mark Zuckerberg during his speech which was a tad cute and went down a treat getting a lot of laughs from our guests.
We knew it was love…
I think we both knew it was love quite early on. We were each other’s first serious partners and he asked me out on our second date. As cliché as it sounds I trusted him completely from the start and knew it was meant to be.
The proposal…
We got engaged in December 2014 after six years together. The proposal was just perfect for us. We were up in Noosa for the weekend because my amazing boss had surprised me with a beautiful getaway as a Christmas present (spoilt I know). We had the best day swimming, eating and having mojitos and Brodes then asked if I wanted to walk to the beach. We were sitting on the rocks, watching the surfers and the sunset, drink in hand when he popped the big question! Over a year on and I still can’t stop staring at my stunning ring. The proposal was gorgeous, relaxed and completely us. He knows the beach is my happy place so the location made it extra special.
Our wedding dreams…
Right from the start, Brodie and I had said we wanted a fun wedding with a relaxed environment, to reflect us and our personalities.
The theme…
I would say the theme for our wedding was elegant, classic, relaxed and fun. We also had a love bird theme and our colours throughout were mint, gold, white and navy.
We set the theme with our love bird invitations which were mint with gold foiling and it was carried out through decorations including white bird cage candle holders as our centre-pieces surrounded by stunning wreaths, love bird cake toppers, hanging bird cage tealight candle holders hanging in the garden and place cards that matched our invitations.
The venue…
We chose the beautiful Hillstone at St Lucia. It was the third venue we looked at and we both loved it and felt it was ‘the one’ so we booked it on the spot. We knew we would have a lot of family traveling from around the country so we loved that our guests didn’t have to hop between venues. We had our ceremony in their unique and stunning Courtyard Garden, then the guests had drinks and canapes on the terrace with acoustic music by the amazing Nick Trovas.
Wedding DIYs…
We made a few DIY’s for our wedding that we loved. Our table seating plan was written on white window frames. We made our signing registry on a mint canvas, it had 100 love hearts inside of a giant love heart for guests to write their initials, names or small messages which is now hanging in our house. We also made our wedding favours which were jars of mints that said ‘Mint to Be’ Ash & Brodes 18.12.15.
The day…
The three course dinner and speeches were then in the gorgeous Rosewood Room overlooking the greens as the sun set. We made sure the formalities were over quite quickly and then we went downstairs to the Library Bar and Terrace where the party really kicked off with a variety of music you could dance the night away to, again by Nick Trovas. Many of our guests were on the dance floor singing along to old and new classics which was exactly the atmosphere we were hoping for. We had made a special request when our invitations were made for guests to write ‘A song that would get them up on the dance floor’ and I made playlists of the songs for in between sets – this seemed to be a big hit!
We also had a photo booth on the terrace which provided a lot of laughs throughout the night and entertainment for Brodie and I as we looked through them the next day.
The bridesmaids…
My beautiful bridesmaids wore mint lace cap-sleeved dresses, nude heels and pearls. They had pastel bouquets with whites, creams, pinks and lilacs, dusty feathers and gumnuts.
The flowers…
I trusted my super talented Florist, Lia from The Vintage Flower Box and gave her a limited brief and she was fantastic. My bouquet was a larger version of the bridesmaids with a few little additions for texture.
Groom and groomsmen…
The groomsmen wore navy chinos, ivory shirts and mint bow ties, navy suspenders, tan shoes and button holes. Brodie wore his chinos with a grey jacket to add a point of difference and he looked super dapper!
The cake…
Our wedding cake was a three tiered white chocolate naked cake filled with raspberry cream and white chocolate ganache and it was seriously to die for. Our cake maker Anita from Cake your Occasion really out-did herself, it even had profiteroles with pink custard that were amazing.
Memorable moments…
It was seriously the best day of our lives, there was so much love and laughter and it really reflected us as a couple which I think is important. There were so many special moments throughout the day and night, our vows, speeches, singing to Brodie but I don’t think I will ever forget the feeling I had when we walked back down the aisle hand in hand, cheesy grins on and cheering as husband and wife. Seeing how happy our loved ones were for us made it extra memorable!
