Finding the Perfect Drop – Wine Advice For Your Wedding

Modern Wedding Posted: April 16, 2015

Cellarmasters wedding wine advice

We’re of the opinion that the way to your guests’ hearts is through their stomachs, so good food and wine is very important. We spoke to the wine experts at Cellarmasters to bring you some tips on choosing the perfect wine for your special day.

What events do I need wine for?

Aside from the big day, there are a bunch of events leading up to your wedding that may involve a drink or two. An engagement party, a bridal shower, hen’s night, rehearsal dinner and pre-reception drinks… just to name a few!

What should I serve?

The wines you choose to serve will depend largely on what kind of wedding you’re having. Ice buckets full of crisp dry whites are ideal for a summer beach wedding, whereas a winter country retreat suits rich, warming reds. When choosing, it’s helpful to know what regions and varieties create the best wines. Whatever the style of wedding, Sparkling wine is a must-have.

How much is enough?

Every wedding is different, but a good rule of thumb is to cater for half a bottle per person. Having too much is better than not having enough – you can always cellar the extras for a later date.

Food Matching

Keeping it simple is key here. Match lighter foods with lighter wines, and richer foods with more robust wines. A good Sav Blanc and Chardonnay will match most menus brilliantly, whilst red lovers will enjoy a Shiraz, Cabernet or Pinot Noir.

Need some help?

Cellarmasters’ FREE Personal Wine Advisor service will ensure that you have the perfect wine for your perfect wedding – at the perfect price. Plus Modern Wedding readers who buy through their Personal Wine Advisory service will also enjoy a FREE bottle of Veuve Champagne* with every four-case wine purchase.
