Where is Overnewton Castle?
Overnewton Castle is in Keilor, only 15 minutes from the Melbourne CBD, and a mostly suburban town, however the Castle is tucked away at the top of the market gardens on 4 ½ acres of manicured gardens.
What does Overnewton Castle offer?
Our main clientele is weddings which we hire out for exclusive use of the gardens and venue on the day, however we also hold an array of other events like functions, birthdays, christenings, conferences, hens days, engagements and a variety of public events which include High Tea’s, Children’s Days and Music Events just to name a few.
What is the style of Overnewton Castle?
Overnewton Castle was built in 1849 and now stands as a prominent heritage building. A Scottish Baronial style castle set amidst over four acres of private tranquil English gardens makes the perfect backdrop for your special occasion.
What is the capacity?
The Dining Room has a maximum capacity of 150 guests for a sit down event or 200 people for a stand up event.
What spaces are available for weddings?
We have one dining room with a couple of sitting rooms, which allows for pre dinners to be served in an elegant room rather than an entry doorway or the back of a dining room.
We can offer the gardens for a reception, however in past events we have had issues with the Melbourne weather so bare this in mind when organising an outdoor one. Marquees are welcome on the property but no pegs can be put into the grounds due to watering systems, they would need to be weighted down.
Pre dinner drinks can be held in the garden, or in the elaborate sitting rooms. The Grand Dining Room features an elegant chandelier and bay window overlooking picturesque gardens, which shadow the newlyweds as they eat their first meal together as husband and wife.
Tell us more about wedding ceremonies at Overnewton Castle…
Ceremonies can also be held on the property either in the private gardens, at the original 1882 Wrought Iron Gazebo or in the non-denominational Chapel which has exquisite hand painted features and a glass ceiling.
The beauty of having both the ceremony and reception in the one location is that you don’t have to run around the countryside taking pictures here, there and everywhere and all your guests are able to relax and have a beverage whist they wait for you to finish your photos.
Is accommodation available?
There are 3 accommodation options on the property:
The cottage which features a double spa bath and balcony overlooking the market gardens, sleeps 6 people with a king sized bed downstairs and 2 double sofa beds upstairs. It includes a full kitchen with continental breakfast, chocolates and bubbly on arrival. This is a popular option for the girls the night before the big day to get ready in and meander down to the Castle once they are ready for the formal proceedings.
The Loft which sleeps 6 with a queen sized bed and 2 double sofa beds, a full kitchen, dining area and laundry with second bathroom. Includes continental breakfast, chocolates and bubbly on arrival. A popular one for the groomsmen the night prior to ensure they arrive on time! This is on the other side of the property to the cottage so the boys won’t see the girls.
The Stables which sleeps up to 10 people with 3 queen sized beds and 4 single beds, has a full kitchen, veranda, dining room, living area and a wood fire for those winter evenings too. This is a popular one for families or friends that wish to stay on the property.
What is the menu like?
Modern Australian with Thai beef salad, tortellini, risotto, stuffed chicken, steaks, sticky date pudding, pavlova, panna cotta and chocolate pudding as an example of the menu options. Our chef is very flexible though, if there is something you wish to serve that is not on the menu he will make it for you. Dietary requirements are extremely prevalent these days which we are pro at catering for also.
Do you offer packages?
We have a variety of packages to suit all budgets, from a small wedding of 20 people right up to 150 people. The food and beverage options are separate to cater for the people that wish to upgrade one of the packages rather than both. Children’s pricing is 50% less than the adults price and same with the suppliers. I’d suggest to contact the office to find out more regarding packages and what the Castle can offer you.
