How much thought are you putting into your wedding shoes?
FUN FACT: Did you know a Russian bride starts thinking about her wedding shoes from a young age and puts away every Ruble she can spare to cover the cost? The more money she saves, the more luxurious her shoes will be. Fabulously expensive wedding footwear is supposed to show her hubby what a good housekeeper she will be… Hmmm…. WHAT?
I don’t know if showing your husband-to-be that you are a super duster is really of top importance, but there are certainly some important factors to consider when choosing your bridal heels, so that you don’t come off looking like a well dressed Hunchback of Notre Damn because you’re struggling to walk!
The wonderful Suzy from Cinderella Bella has offered to give us her best tips to making sure you step into the perfect shoes!
Suzy: “It’s a bit of a misconception that wedding shoes won’t be seen under the wedding dress – this is simply not the case. Shoes will be seen walking down the aisle, for photos and during a couple’s first dance. So, it’s worth spending some time considering what accessories you want to compliment your beautiful wedding dress.
Consider what heel height you are used to wearing – the big day is not the time to experiment with different heel heights. Flats may seem like a suitable alternative but double check this with your dress maker. Sometimes the fit of a dress will be improved by the use of a heel, particularly form fitting dresses.
As all brides would be aware there are so many shades of wedding dress, make sure you bring a fabric swatch to help you select a shoe that will match the tone of your dress. It not uncommon for the shoes and dress not to match exactly, as long as they are in the same tone your look will be complete.
Next consider the style and cut of the shoe. Some shoes are well suited to vintage or lace dress and others compliment a more edgy modern look. Also consider the day, a really formal wedding will probably suit a closed in classic pump, whereas a more casual garden wedding may suit a strappy shoe.
Make sure your shoes are worn well before the day. Try to wear them for 3-4 hours twice to really have them shape to feet. Resist the temptation to wear them to dancing lessons – you’re fiancé is bound to misstep a couple of times and the last thing you want is your beautiful shoes to have black marks on them before the day.
Most important tip for selecting a pair of shoes for the big day?
Make sure you select a shoe with a genuine leather lining. This makes for a much more comfortable shoe and a much better fit.
