After meeting in high school and dating soon after graduating, Shannon and Christine knew it was love early on in the piece and celebrated their love with a beautiful dramatic and glamorous Hollywood style wedding.
FALLING IN LOVE
Meeting so young, there was no defining moment when Shannon and Christine knew it was love “For us, falling in love was more of a feeling that grew steadily over the years rather than pinpointing it to a singular moment”.
Christine doesn’t remember the moment she knew Shannon was the one, “Somewhere along the line we could no longer imagine our lives without the other, and our future became intertwined. The two of us have grown up together. We’ve travelled the world together and now we can’t wait to build a life together”.
DOWN ON ONE KNEE AT THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD
Shannon proposed on a holiday along The Great Ocean Road “he proposed to me on the beach of the Gibson Steps with the 12 Apostles in the background”.
DRAMATIC HOLLYWOOD GLAM
Christine was set on having a wedding breaking from the traditional white style of other weddings, “I wanted the room to feel dramatic and chic with a feel of old Hollywood glam and our colour scheme was black, gold with bright vibrant flowers and greenery”. The ceremony was held at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church and the reception at the Adelaide InterContinental Hotel.
THE BRIDAL PARTY
Shannon and Christine had 4 bridesmaids and 4 groomsmen that helped them celebrate their upcoming nuptials. The Best Man and Maid of Honor had been friends for over 10 years and the Bridesmaids and Groomsmen were Christine’s sister and 3 cousins. The high tea was organised by Christine’s Maid of Honor. The day was filled with “gold cutlery and vintage tea ware, catered by the InterContinental Hotel and Jenna Marie Patisserie. Every guest was given a little jar of tea which had a custom flavour of white chocolate and passion fruit”.
FRENCH LACE, BLACK SILK AND BLACK SUITS
Inspired by a gown worn at the Oscars in 2016, each of Christine’s bridesmaids wore lace black dresses.
“Black silk dresses with a French lace bodice and Christian Louboutin heels. Our dresses were made by a family dress maker that has created dresses for many special moments in my life”.
Shannon’s groomsmen wore a black suit, white shirt and black skinny tie whilst the groom himself was dressed by Harrolds Melbourne and wore Christian Louboutin shoes.
AN OLD HOLLYWOOD WEDDING GOWN
Christine wore J’Aton Couture with Christian Louboutin Shoes “My inspiration was old Hollywood a fitted dress with beautiful lace with that said I then left it in the amazing hands of Jacob at J’Aton to create a once off masterpiece”.
PINK, ORANGE, PURPLE, RED AND GREEN BLOOMS
The bridesmaid’s bouquets were a stand out in bright pinks, orange, purple, red and green “I wanted the flowers to stand out”. And the bride had a white bouquet of phalaenopsis orchids.
BLACK AND GOLD TABLE SETTINGS
“The InterContinental Ballroom features a beautiful copper ceiling which was one of the reasons we selected the venue as it complimented the theme of the wedding,” says Christine.
Each table setting was decorated with black silk table linen, glass and gold charger plates, with a gold disc menu, gold cutlery, gold stands with candles and bright flowers finished with a Moet and Chandon bonbonniere with a personalised ribbon with the bride and grooms logo for each guest to take home.
“Our flowers were bright and vibrant and filled the room, above the bridal table we had a cascading arrangement that also had a waterfall effect of Edison globes.
We wanted our cake to be different as well. We went for a black 4-tier cake, which had gold leaf and magenta phalaenopsis orchids cascading down the front. The cake was placed on a gold plinth” says Christine.
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ANTIPASTO AND A SIT DOWN DINNER
Shannon and Christine had South Australian antipasto and a sit down dinner. There was an entrée choice of Sweet potato, goats curd and pine nut ravioli with a burnt butter vinaigrette and crisp sage leaves or Salad of Spencer Gulf prawns with pickled fennel, asparagus, buttermilk and chorizo crumb.
Beef fillet with potato puree, baby carrots and broccolini with a red wine jus and a ballontine of chicken wrapped in pancetta with Swiss brown mushroom and sautéed ruby chard were the options for the mains and dessert was Crème Brulee served with pistachio sponge and berries, black forest Vacherin, tea, coffee and wedding cake.
A MOMENT BETWEEN FATHER AND DAUGHTER
“Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Shannon waiting at the front of the altar. This was also a magic moment for Shannon watching me walk to him. Walking into the Ballroom and seeing the room come to life for the very first time and our first walk as a married couple” Christine says were some of the most memorable moments of her special day.
Another memorable moment for the bride and groom was the Maid of Honour Lilli singing their first dance song “Let’s Stay Together.” by Al Green. The rest of the soundtrack for the day was full of feel good artists ranging from Avicii, John Legend and Ellie Goulding.
BRIDE AND GROOM
Shannon and Christine honeymooned in Europe (London, Paris, Venice, Barcelona and on a Mediterranean Cruise).
The newlyweds have big plans and hope to be as in love as they are now in 40 years time with a family of their own.
ADVICE FROM THE BRIDE AND GROOM
During the engagement “Enjoy this time as this is the beginning of this part of your life. It is very similar feeling to the honeymoon stage after you are married”.
During the planning “Make sure you don’t over think your ideas and styling. Make sure you both have input on everything you decide on”.
On the day “Enjoy every moment as the day goes by a blink of an eye”.
