Honeymoon Checklist

12 Micron Posted: October 30, 2012

These handy hints might just help you save time and enjoy the dream holiday of a lifetime.

Book early It may seem like common sense but it’s important to plan your honeymoon well in advance, particularly if you want to travel in peak season.

MW Tip: Indicate on your travel documents that you are honeymooners…you might be pleasantly surprised with the generous hospitality that you encounter along the way!

Passport Make sure your passport is valid. If there are less than six months remaining, organise a new passport three months before the wedding. ҬTo find out more about getting your passport up to date log on to www.dfat.gov.au/geo/index.html. Application forms can also be obtained from your local post office. If you need a passport at the last minute, never fear as you can pay a priority processing fee that guarantees delivery within 48 working hours (dependant on all the right information being submitted).

Visas Many countries require a valid entry visa, so check with your travel agent whether you need one for your intended destination. Make sure you apply for your visa at least one month in advance of your honeymoon.

Vaccinations If you are travelling to a country where vaccinations are recommended try to have them at least three weeks before the wedding so any bruising or swelling will have subsided.

Travel insurance It is imperative that you take out travel insurance. It will give you peace of mind.

Money Estimate how much money you can afford to spend per day, then add a little extra to cover any unforseen expenses. If your honeymoon is not an all-inclusive package deal, factor in the cost of food, drinks, alcohol, activities, transport, excursions and perhaps a few decadent massages and bottles of bubbly! Do some research and get some basic prices before you leave.

While you’re away Don’t forget to make plans to ensure your home is secure while you are away. Arrange for someone to check on your home every few days and collect any post that arrives after you leave. A brimming post box is a loud and clear welcome to burglars. Obviously don’t forget about your pets!

Flights For interstate flights make sure you arrive at the airport at least one hour prior to departure and for international flights it’s recommended that you arrive three hours prior to departure.

Duty free One of the great perks you get when you take an overseas holiday is duty free shopping – remember to shop around so you know if you are getting a good price.

First aid Basic essentials include:”¨-    Headache tablets”¨-    Bandaids”¨-    Antiseptic”¨-    Sunscreen”¨-    Insect repellent”¨-    Tummy upset tablets “¨-    Re-hydration salts”¨-    Hay fever tablets”¨-    Eye drops “¨-    And if you are on prescription medication, including the pill, make sure you don’t run out mid-honeymoon.
