We took this opportunity to ask Karen a little more about her stunning new collection…
What inspired this collection?
Our photo shoot features gowns from both the Demi Couture and BRIDE by KAREN WILLIS HOLMES Collections and draws inspiration from many different elements. A lot of the time I can be inspired when sourcing and viewing new fabrics, lace and motifs, and thinking about how I can work with the fabric. I also love collating mood boards and inspiration images that mix from old world to modern day details.
What are the key aesthetics?
The key aesthetics of these collections is the fabrics and the way in which they have been used. We have cut out delicate corded lace motifs and hand stitched these as applique to necklines to soften the design on looks like the ‘Jasmine’ and ‘Matilda’ gowns. The silhouettes of the gowns are also very important to me – they are strong yet feminine.
What fabrics and embellishments have you used?
I have used a real mix of fabrics and textures – from a number of different types of lace varying from fine and delicate French Chantilly Lace, Corded Lace and beautiful Guipure Lace which have been immensely popular of late.
I have kept the embellished design elements minimal compared to the previous designs that will allow brides to create an individual look with the embellished belts and epaulettes we have available if they wish.
What kind of bride do you think this collection would suit?
I am very conscious of who my bride is and what she wants. They want to look and feel beautiful on their wedding day. They are after a gown with exceptional fit, a gown they can personalize and make their own with accessories or small changes and they want a design which is both functional & fashionable.
