Inspired to tell a story of vulnerability, boldness and enchantment, a NSW-based Wedding Stylist has re-imagined the fairytale classic ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ as a chic and unique basis for a wedding theme.
“I have ever been captivated by the story, it has always intrigued me and drawn me in,” said Trish Thomas of Essential Wedding Design. “Likewise, when I was designing this shoot, I wanted the viewer to be drawn into the images, which is what the Red Riding Hood story is all about… Red Riding Hood is drawn in by the wolf, the Hunter is drawn into her story to save her from the wolf. It’s all about the delicate balance between childhood and maturity, vulnerability and strength, the real and the imagined. What a wonderful place for a wedding!” Trish enthuses, eyes twinkling.
“The bush setting was the basis for our decor and theming. We wanted to align the styling as closely as possible with the original story,” Trish says. “I wanted to show the familiar aspects, like the basket, the cape and the hood, but also to introduce new elements like the bouquet, mirror and the sitting area.” The team focused on contrasting the ideas of boldness and vulnerability in their shoot. “I wanted the model to look striking, but still have that captivating innocence.”
The team’s real inspiration came from a desire to show couples that they don’t need much to establish an atmosphere that creates an experience. “For instance, a bold lipstick, earrings or a bouquet of apples can be just as effective on a wedding day to create this look,” suggests Trish.
Believed by many to be a coming-of-age tale, the original story follows a young girl who makes her way from the safety of her home to her Grandmother’s House, travelling through a darkened forest. She comes across a wolf who disguises himself, tricking her into believing he is her Grandmother. Almost devoured, Red Riding Hood is saved at the last moment by a valiant Huntsman nearby.
