Kylie and Dillan originally planned for a simple wedding, but after seeing Baz Luhhrmann’s The Great Gatsby they were inspired to recreate the glamour and energetic vibes of the infamous Gatsby parties.
At 19, Kylie met Dillan through mutual friends and the pair has been inseparable ever since. In March 2013 Dillan organised a spontaneous trip to the Maldives and proposed over a dinner by the beach, to the tune of their first dance ‘Better Together’ by Jack Johnson.
The couple booked their wedding at Doltone House Hyde Park, attracted to the venue’s unique beauty and character. ‘It was after Dillan and I watched The Great Gatsby movie, Dillan turned to me and said, “This is what I want my wedding to be like,”’ recalls Kylie.
Kylie wore a stunning Steven Khalil couture wedding dress. ‘After a few meetings we definitely created my perfect dress,’ says Kylie. Kylie’s bridesmaids wore simple bodice silk gowns by Eva Couture.
Kylie chose George of Filmography to capture all the memories of her day after seeing the photos and albums he had put together for her sister’s wedding. ‘We were very lucky to get perfect weather and a fun and jovial bridal party to shoot. Kylie and Dillan were such a delight to work with, we all had so much fun on location and later followed by the reception,’ says George.
Their dreams of an elegant and lavish wedding were brought to fruition by florist extraordinaire Vesna Grasso and orchestrated by Weddings by Diane Khoury. A custom made backdrop with the pair’s initials cut out created an extra special touch.
‘Extravagance and glamour are the words that come to mind when I think back to Kylie and Dillan’s wedding day,’ says photographer George of Filmography. ‘From our intimate and humble engagement shoot onto the journey leading to their wedding day, it resonated old hollywood glamour of the roaring 20s with a modern twist.’
The day was filled with highlights including their ceremony in the crypt of Saint Mary’s Cathedral to the grand decorations of the reception. ‘As I walked into our reception venue I was brought to tears of happiness upon seeing how the room looked. So many months of hard work went into the planning and to see it all come together with our friends and family was incredible,’ says Kylie.
Ever the romantic, Dillan has organised a mystery honeymoon for Kylie – they leave on Saturday! We can’t wait to find out where they end up 🙂
