He saw her photograph on an online dating site, but initially she didn’t respond to his advances. Then, a chance late night meeting at the gym sparked a real connection. “We’ve been inseperable ever since!” says Vesna.
On Valentine’s Day last year, following a romantic lunch, Rolf asked Vesna to pack her bags for an overnight getaway. He took her to the InterContinental Hotel in Sydney and proposed that night in a room overlooking the harbour.
“We both wanted a small and intimate wedding with only our closest family and friends,” says Vesna. With many guests attending from interstate and overseas, they chose a venue that was outside of Sydney to ensure their guests experienced a broader view of Australia.
“Our families had never met, so an introduction was important before the wedding,” says Vesna. A family lunch on the eve of their wedding provided the perfect opportunity for everyone to get to know each other.
A theme of Hollywood Glamour, with a modern touch, ensured a luxurious experience for all attendees. Vesna’s couture gown was made with milk Valentino silk, covered with Chantilly lace and beaded with Swarovski crystals.
Their ceremony was held in a private garden in Leura, under the blossom trees, and they celebrated their reception with a decedent eight-course degustation menu at Darley’s Restaurant, Lilianfels Hotel and Spa in Katoomba.
“It was a day filled with so much love and emotion,” says Vesna. “Particularly because Rolf’s family were there and hadn’t seen him for nine years. The most special moments for us were sharing our vows and promises with each other – everyone was in tears, and when my brother played and sang ‘More Than Words’ as part of the ceremony.”
Vesna and Rolf performed a romantic rumba as their wedding dance, and are planning a luxurious island honeymoon on their first wedding anniversary.
