The Royal Wedding Hair Round Up – Royal Wedding Hair Through The Ages

Modern Wedding Posted: May 18, 2018

As we draw closer to the wedding of the year, we chatted to celebrity hair stylist Paloma Rose Garcia about some of the most iconic hairstyles from princesses around the world and how to recreate them on your own big day.

Princess Mary

On her wedding day, Princess Mary opted for a sleek low bun hairstyle. She completed the look with a tiara that was a gift from Queen Margrethe II and Prince Frederik of Denmark.

Recreate this look:  Apply some hair gel at the front of your hair so that you get that sleek back looked and comb your back into a ponytail. Straighten your pony tail with a heated flat iron and twist the ponytail all the way to the bottom. Wrap the pony tail around the hair tie and secure it with easily hidden pins. Finish off with hairspray so you can maintain the sleek look all day!

Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II rocked the curled bob described as ‘a helmet’ by Prince Philips in the crown. This style is evanescent of the beautiful 50’s style. Today, this style is great for those with short, layered hair.

Rania, Queen of Jordan

A sweeping high ballerina bun and veil are the perfect match. This look will also add height and drama to your bridal look, and is also great for keeping your hair out of your way on the day. To get this elegant retro-inspired look, opt for a braided bun.

Recreate this look: Pull your hair back into a sleek high ponytail. Plait the ponytail all the way to the end keeping it tight. To make the bun, starting at the base wrap your braided pony tail around and pin in place. If you want your hair on show for the day opt for the veil underneath otherwise you can tuck your veil in above your bun.

Diana, Princess of Wales

Diana flaunted her signature side-swept shaggy hairstyle on her big day, with bangs and the beautiful Spencer Tiara.

Princess Madeleine of Sweden

Princess Madeleine looked stunning with her low updo and high veil tiara. Chignons can be worn in a variety of ways, including to the side. To achieve the chignon look, start by pulling you hair back into a twisted bun at the nape of your neck and secure with pins. A great chignon is in the detail – created by weaving hair and small plaits around the low bun. Make sure you show images of what you have in mind when you go for your hair trial!

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

The Duchess of Cambridge stunned the world with her elegant look. The aimple and stunning demi-chignon, or as most people know it, the half bun was finished off beautifully with her wedding tiara which had nearly 1,000 diamonds in total and was purchased from Cartier in 1936 as an anniversary gift from King George VI to his wife. Eight years later the current Queen received it as a gift.

Recreate this look: This look is easily achievable and great for both long and short hair. Start off by blow-drying your hair straight. Using a straightener, create soft, frizz free waves by taking small sections on each side of the front and gently twist. Pin these back into a half bun and secure these with hair pins.
