Holding a special place in their hearts, the Hunter Valley was the spot that Katie and Tyler knew they would say their I do’s. Choosing to create a beautiful natural decor, these newlyweds enjoyed plenty of celebrating and an unforgettable night with family and friends.
Katie and Tyler met during their childhood at their local swim centre. After sparking a friendship in their teenage years, romance soon blossomed and within just a few months of dating, the couple knew that this was love. Taking place where they met, Tyler proposed at the swim centre using a video that was played in front of everyone. Family and friends attended, ensuring not only a surprise for Katie, but also a lot of emotion.
“I was one of those little girls who dreamed about her wedding. I had planned the wedding in my mind for years and years, so I had a very clear idea of what I wanted!” Katie tells us. The perfect setting for their day took place in the Hunter Valley, a spot they frequently visited for birthdays and anniversaries.
The theme chosen was “whimsical, natural beauty” with a large focus on crisp and clean colours, truly taking advantage of the beautiful outdoor area at the venue. “We wanted nature to play a large part in our ceremony and reception, so we opted for large floral pieces and installations”. Following the desire for a crisp and natural look, the colour palette focussed on natural greenery, white details and small glimmers of gold throughout the day.
The bride chose a fitted lace gown designed by Maggie Sottero. “I wanted a classic, romantic dress, mixed with modern boho…the stunning crochet lace created an elegant detail that I could only have imagined. The back of the dress was so flattering and was unlike anything else I had come across”. The bridal look was tied together with a timeless plain veil, dainty pearl earrings and some fabulous jewelled shoes.
Standing by the bride and groom throughout the day were four bridesmaids and groomsmen, all friends of the couple. Following along with the theme, bridesmaids dresses in crisp white dresses, with the groomsmen matching the groom in classic and dapper navy suits.
The reception continued the theme with large floral centrepieces and an abundance of greenery and white nature flowers. A four piece live band, decadent chocolate bar and lots of fun and festivities ensured that the reception carried on with the desired atmosphere. Guests were also treated to sweet personalised honey jars and dippers and thongs to ensure they could dance the night away in comfort!
The night was completed with a stunning fireworks display which began when the cake was cut. “The venue had a deck that looked out over a dam, so we invited our guests out on the deck to watch us cut the cake. As we put the knife into the cake, a fireworks display began behind us! Our guests were gobsmacked! It made for some stunning photos too.”
Some final wise words from the bride and groom? “It only has to be stressful if you make it! Have a budget, keep lists (excel spreedsheets!) and take it one step at a time. Also, pick a theme and stick to it! And be sure to take a few minutes away from everything with your new husband/wife. Step outside your reception and spend some one on one time together”
