Let’s be honest, planning a wedding can be overwhelming and daunting. Here at Modern Wedding, we know that one of the greatest comforts during this stressful time is hearing from those who have already been through it. With guidance from both real couples and the Modern Wedding team, we have all of the best wedding advice that you need to hear before the big day!
Advice On Planning
“Plan ahead and be organised with everything. If you’re not great with your memory, create an excel sheet and write down all the things you need. Then tackle them one by one. To all future brides, book your reception first and then book everything else. Also, enjoy the planning as it is a once in a lifetime journey.” – Dani & Safa
“If you’re planning an overseas wedding like we did, make sure that you receive confirmations of everything. You also have to be willing to chase suppliers if you are waiting weeks for a reply! Speak to a pro if you need an extra hand and let the experts help you out!” – Georgia & Josh
“Don’t let wedding planning take over your life. Yes, it will be busy, but just enjoy the time and fit it in when you can.” – Angela & Michael
“Plan in bits and pay off in bits. Our wedding planning experience was very exciting and calm because we didn’t rush anything.” – Victoria & Clinton
Advice For The Big Day
“I remember someone giving me this advice and it really stuck with me. Stop. Enjoy the moment. Breathe and take it all in. Also, make sure you have little moments with your new hubby on the night to reflect on it all.” – Ben & Kate
“Take a step back during the wedding together and have a look around at everyone. They’re all there to celebrate you both!” – Christie & Timothy
“Allow plenty of time to get ready so you aren’t rushed and have a chance to enjoy a glass of champagne with your bridesmaids and family” – Amy & Stephen
“If you are able to, I would recommend trying to be there to greet your guests as they enter the reception room for your dinner (if this is what you are having) – I know it’s not the traditional way however I found I was walking out of the room just as everyone was coming in. One of my bridesmaids told me to just stay by the door and say hi to everyone as they came in and it was the best thing I did as it meant I got to speak to everyone. Trying to see everyone was the trickiest part of the wedding” – Mel & Dave
From the MW Team
We also have some wonderful advice from the experts themselves…the Modern Wedding team!
“Wear comfortable shoes! There’s nothing worse than having sore feet and blisters while you’re trying to enjoy your special day.” – Claudia N
“Have an organised run sheet of exactly what the day is going to look like and who is responsible for each task. That way, you can feel confident that everyone knows their role and you don’t have to worry about silly details while you’re trying to enjoy the day.” – Katie
“Set out a calendar for your wedding planning and stick to you. Also don’t be afraid to ask for help! You would be surprised how many people in your life want to help you plan the perfect day” – Claudia B
“The details can make an event. Little things like linen, stationery, bomboniere and table decorations can make an enormous difference to the finished effect. The details can take time, but they’re worth it” – Rosemary
“It’s your day! This advice is given a lot, but it can be easy to forget. Remember that this is your wedding day and you can plan it however you like. Don’t let other people’s opinions take away from your wedding dream” – Nicola
“Organisation is key! You’ll have so many things going on at once, you need to keep track of it all. I am a spreadsheet freak! Use spreadsheets, your I-Phone calendars or a wedding planning diary (Kikki K has some seriously cute ones!) to keep everything on track. There is bound to be a little chaos but that’s part of the fun of it!” – Claudia R (There really are three Claudia’s in the team!)
