O D I L E & J O H N O
Odile and Johno celebrated their love with a timeless ceremony and beautiful reception. Their big day incorporated a playful aesthetic, non-traditional pieces and was completed with personal details from the couples love story. Amongst the classic wedding style was a tone of charming warmth and true love. Nicknamed ‘Ginger and Spice’ and ‘Australia’s Meghan and Harry’, this couple is clearly meant to be.
FROM DAY ONE…
In the same course at university, Odile and Johno crossed paths on campus, bumping into each other on nights out and at events. In true student style, “Johno proclaimed his love following an afternoon session at the university tavern,” the bride explained.
TOTALLY HOOKED…
Suggesting the couple take the day off work to go fishing, Johno’s proposal plans were shaken when Odile thought the weather wasn’t optimal. “Everything we did was based around the weather and taking our boat out to go fishing,” the couple explained. But, with a little persuasion, the couple ventured along the pristine waters of Ningaloo Reef, snorkelling and watching sea life. Back on land, they wandered up to the lighthouse for whale watching overlooking the reef, and it was here that Johno got down on one knee.
A WARM WELCOME…
Holding the ceremony in St Mary’s Church in Leederville, the couple wanted to keep things simple and stay true to themselves. “With help and guidance from our friends and family, a theme and style slowly developed,” Odile said. The styling was clean with fresh whites and neutrals, accented against soft warm tones, golds and blacks. A huge stained glass window and white arch framed the couple as they said their I do’s, with the brightness of the day providing a gorgeous shine to the ceremony.
MAKING MEMORIES…
The bridal party made use of the gorgeous natural wood, stone and foliage surrounding the venue to capture charming wedding photos, taken by Anna Pretorius. “She was 110% committed to understanding us as a couple and has provided us wth countless memories to look back on for years to come,” the couple said about their photographer.
ALL TOGETHER NOW…
The bride and groom brought together their nearest and dearest with a bridal party of eight. “It was important that the party represented different aspects of our lives,” the couple said. To propose to each member of the bridal party, Odile and Johno put together a hilarious package of pun-related goodies. Certainly a fabulously unique way to ask!
DRESSED TO IMPRESS…
The bridesmaids wore assorted gold and champagne coloured dresses and strappy block heels, with textures of silk and satin softening the atmosphere of the vibrant event. Each one carried bouquets scattered with pink and red roses and orange orchids.
BOW-TYING THE KNOT…
The groomsmen wore classic black suits, sunglasses and an orange bloom on their lapel. Black bowties were also added to the look and were made a compulsory accessory for all the men who attended. Johno wore a monochrome floral suit jacket to stand out, which was paired with patent shoes, black suit pants and a bow tie, of course!
A GLOWING BRIDE…
Odile’s dress was a gorgeous beaded gown from Bridal by Aubrey Rose. The design featured head-to-toe floral appliqué and a sultry low back. “My must-haves were to find something which was comfortable and something which I could both sit and dance in,” the bride said. The dress showcased a sheer overlay decorated with diamantes and silver threading which shimmered as it moved in the daylight.
DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY…
The reception took place at The Crown Hotel in Perth. The grand ballroom featured plenty of room to dance, radiating luxury with chandeliers and gold detailing. The couple perfectly coordinated the aesthetic from the ceremony into the night with matching floral centrepieces by Flower Fable. The night consisted of a sit-down three course menu and was completed with a wedding cake created by the bride herself. “I had a great time doing this and thoroughly enjoyed eating all the raw cake batter and icing,” Odile said.
ALL IN THE DETAILS…
To showcase their charming love affair, the couple added personal details which truly transformed the space into their own. Inspired by their adventures with each other and joint love for being on the water, they included a “Find your Species” seating plan with tables named after some of their local fishing catches. A fish selfie of themselves was also featured on every table.
THE FUN TO COME…
Now that the wedding is over, the newlyweds are off to explore New Zealand with their family! Before doing so, they wanted to share some wedding advice. “Take the time to enjoy and celebrate engaged life, not just married life too.” Looking to the future, Odile and Johno wish to continue to create their “Aussie backyard dream” complete with pizza oven, outdoor bar, a dog and kids.
