Enjoy this unbelievably cute baby shower inspiration from Fiona Deans-Dundas of Couture Wedding Planning. The stunning mummy-to-be-slash-wedding-planner knows how to throw a party!
Ever wondered what a wedding planner’s baby shower looks like? Well, Fiona Deans-Dundas of Couture Wedding Planning is expecting a little bundle of joy and her baby shower was as cute as a button!
The High Tea was aptly themed “Baby Couture” and featured luxe styling with a colour palette of gold, pink and white. The pretty decor included loads of orchids, roses, vintage-style teacups and golden angel wings.
Fiona has also shared her top tips for planning a baby shower – so get ready to take notes!
What inspired the styling of the baby shower?
My darling husband, Mark, surprised me with the Cybex Pram designed by Jeremy Scott for my birthday which has these lovely gold wings on it. I loved the pram so much that I decided to make the gold wings the theme for my baby shower.
I then asked Melissa from Personalised Favours if she could design some wings from gold acrylic inspired by the pram wings so I can feature them at the baby shower and later use them in the styling of our son’s nursery. I also asked Faye Cahill Cake Design if she could place some gold wings onto the baby shower cake she designed for the event.
I also thought it would be a fun idea to attached gold wings to my outfit that I wore to the baby shower so I also complemented the theme (and even convinced my husband to wear wings as well for a couple of pictures!) I completed my look with a stunning gold tiara from Roman and French and gold wing necklace from Giselle Collection and professional hair and makeup by talented Simona Janek who is doing my maternity shoot for me next week.
How did you decorate the venue?
The baby shower was held at one of favourite venues I use for weddings, Gunner Barracks, in their stunning drawing room featuring crystal chandeliers and wall of mirrors at one end. I placed the gold wings on the central mirror with the Faye Cahill Cake in front of it and then surrounded the cake with a floral installation of white and mocha phalaenopsis orchids, which worked so well with the gold frames of the wall of mirrors. We sourced the orchids all the way from Taiwan from a specialised orchid grower called Sunpride.
I then engaged Harbourside Decorators to bring in some of their gold infinity chairs as well as stunning gold rimmed charger plates and gold cutlery and napkin rings as I felt these would complement the stunning Royal Albert gold rimmed china that Gunner Barracks had custom made for their high tea events.
I also engaged the talented Jacqueline from Fabled Florette to create some stunning centrepieces using the mocha orchids we sourced from Sunpride in Taiwan with peach and white Colombian roses to complement the gold tones of the room.
What was on your baby shower menu?
The exceptional High Tea menu included a selection of cakes such as coconut macaron, Opera Slice, orange & almond cake and Banana Panna Cotta. A selection of finger sandwiches, mushroom arancini balls and pumpkin frittata as well as scrumptious warm scones with cream and home made preserves. This was all served with the finest teas including Earl Grey (which is my favourite) and barista made coffees as well a sparkling wine for those who were not pregnant.
What was most memorable about the day?
One memorable moment from the baby shower was walking into the Drawing Room for the first time and I just cried as it was just so stunning and all the suppliers worked so hard and went out of their way to make the events so special for me.
Another touching moment is when my darling husband, Mark came to share a few moments with me at the beginning of the baby shower and it really dawned on us that we have created this amazing little person who we will bring into this world and will become the centre of our universe.
It was just such a lovely day of celebration and it was so lovely to share this with my close friends and also fuse my two worlds together – my friends from university with my wedding family as a lot of them have not met before.
What about motherhood are you most excited for?
I am just so excited to meet our son and see what he will be like. I am really looking forward to nurturing this little being into an intelligent and caring man who will find his own soulmate and path in life.
Fiona’s top tips for planning a baby shower:
O N E
Come up with a theme that resonates with you and that you love – follow our new sister company @couturebabyevents on Instagram for inspiration for everything to do with baby’s fashion, interiors and events.
T W O
A fun idea is to make everyone wear a colour to celebrate if it a boy or girl – for example, ask your guests to wear blue if it is a boy or pink if it a girl (if you’re telling people the baby’s gender).
T H R E E
For the couples who have decided to keep the gender of the baby a secret maybe go for a neutral colour palette to keep everyone guessing such white or yellow.
F O U R
For couples who want to reveal their baby’s gender at the baby shower – maybe pop a giant balloon with smaller balloon in it with the colour of the babies gender or organise with your cake designer to match the interior colour of the cake to the baby’s gender so when you go to cut the cake you can reveal the gender.

Come up with a few games to be played at the baby shower – we had a few fun ones such as guest how many jelly babies are in the baby bottle, guess how big mummy tummy is, what are the baby animals’ names and guess what the baby food is. There are a wealth of ideas on the internet and on Pinterest so simply do a little google search and find games that you like.

These day people are also moving away from having female only baby showers and also inviting men so both the mums and dads and their friends can celebrate the baby’s impending arrival together.

Hire a photographer to come in and take a few photos of you and your husband at the start of the event (these photos are priceless) as well capturing the event and all the guests that attend. We where lucky enough to have Graham Monro from GM Photographics to come and capture the event for us.
