A custom hashtag is so much fun. There are two ways in which this can be done. If you and your partner are the punny types, you can create your own, from scratch, using our tips below. Otherwise, you can use a hashtag generator that will do all the hard work for you. Let the fun begin!
Do It Yourself…
To build your custom hashtag, write down basic information that is key to you and your partner. Consider using things like:
- Your full name
- Your partner’s full name
- The wedding date and or the year
- Any other significant dates (the day you met, your first date etc.)
- The name of the venue / the part of the world in which your wedding is taking place
It Takes Two…
Gather your bridal party, your mum, your dad, your dog, whoever is present in your life that may inspire you, and get brainstorming. Write down all of your of ideas – no matter how funny (or not) they may be! Think outside the box and draw inspiration from your favourite TV show, your favourite bottle of wine, your pets name and any sentimental locations that you and your partner have. The aim is to spark multiple ideas that could potentially lead you to the ultimate pun… MW Tip: try and avoid generic tags like #NameAndName or #JustMarried as they’ll just get lost amongst the rest.
Tempting Templates…
If you need some more inspiration, you can use the below templates that have sparked some joy amongst the MW team. Get creative with them, get real punny and make it your own! Or keep it simple and sweet, it’s really up to you. Hashtags are so much fun and so impressive when done correctly. Handy hint: Make sure you use a capital letter for each word as this will help to differentiate the words without using spaces in between.
- #MeetTheSurname
- #MrAndMrsSurname
- #NameWedsName
- #NameAndNameGetHitched
- #NameAndNameSealTheDeal
- #HappilyEverSurname
- #SurnameSquared
- #SurnameForever
A Few Of Our Favourites…
Here are some really cutesy and creative wedding hashtags we’ve come across…
- #MatchMadeInDevon
- #TrippOfAWifetime
- #YouMcraeKissTheBride
- #MasonAccomplished
- #TheRestIsHestory

Divide and Conquer…
With the list you have created, divide it into two and make a shortlist. Then, go through them carefully with your partner and any family or friends that may be helping you. Next, check the spelling, check you have capital letters in the correct spot and most importantly search the hashtag on social media to make sure it hasn’t been used!
Pick The Potential…
Review your shortlist and take into consideration a few of the following points: Will you be using this on signage and is it short enough to fit? Is it unique enough not to be reused by another couple in the following few months? You don’t want to be getting your pictures confused with another couple! Can you easily spell the words used? Is it quick and simple enough that guests don’t have to spend a lot of time on it? By answering these questions, hopefully, you are closer to narrowing down your top 2! Wooo!
We’ve Found The One…Now What?
Get spreading! Let the world (well, mostly your guests) know about your wedding hashtag. Ensure you use it on any pre-wedding event posts on social media. This way, your guests will become familiar with the tag and by the time your wedding day has arrived, they’ll know exactly what they’re tagging. Us here at MW love anything custom, what’s more bespoke than your own hashtag?
Generate It For Me…
If you would prefer to leave it up to the professionals, then fear not! Check out a few of our favourite wedding hashtag generators. It takes only a few minutes to input your information and voila, all the hard work is done. Sit back and let them do their thing…
