How to Style A Beach Wedding

Modern Wedding Posted: July 17, 2018

Think no shoes, the wind in your hair, the calm sounds of the waves and all of your loved ones at your favourite spot for your special day. Bliss

A beach wedding is a perfect way to keep your wedding beautiful and simplistic, bringing all your loved ones together in a calm and stunning environment. In playing with this spectacular wedding setting, the styling should be minimal and natural. However, of course it can be done in a luxurious and glamorous way too.

The Ceremony

Incorporating the colour schemes of the pastel blues and pinks, vibrant greens and natural sandy tones surrounding you, can make for seamless styling that easily makes everyone feel calm and ready for an amazing day. Using the many earthy elements already available to you at the beach can create for special styling and inspiration, plus can be affordable and unique.

Use the ocean, white sand or palm trees as the backdrop to where you say ‘I do’. For the arch, make it crisp white, or play off the bark tones and vibrant palms to create a minimal and gorgeous archway. The aisle can be simply the sand between your toes lined by lanterns or vases, or pop down bamboo or seagrass aisle runners. It is great to keep the chairs in the same tone, natural and clean. They can be untouched or draped in flowers, garlands, lights or ribbon to add some earthy colour or texture.

It doesn’t matter whether you hold your reception on the beach, or at a location nearby, the beach finishes can be easily found. The little pieces of styling and decoration can be done in such a simple yet effective way to extend on the beach feel and make it more individual for your special day. Similarly to the ceremony, it is great to use the colours and textures of the beach environment with flower and vine garlands, gorgeous lanterns and wood for the styling of the tables and chairs, as well as surrounding the space.

Some common styling touches are fairy lights – EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE, succulents, lanterns, candles, vine and flower garlands, fabric draping, vases, signage, quotes and photographs. The great thing about this type of styling is how personalised it can be.

Often the small touches and personal DIY are the most memorable and touching for the guests. Personal place settings, small gifts or a photo area are so fun and creative. Using decorations from the direct surrounds can also add a sweet touch – shells, sand vases, greenery and floral bouquets and faux starfish and coral.

The food and drink styling can also be inspired by the tropical feels of the day. Some great food stands make it simple, fun and social. Fruit platters or skewers, delicious fruity cocktails, seafood finger food, tacos or sliders are great ways to achieve this.
