What inspired you to create this shoot?
This shoot was inspired by my love of all things vintage with a Parisian romantic feel of a bridal boudoir studio which is essentially a haven for a bride to be on her wedding day before she actually puts on her wedding gown. I wanted to capture the luxury of pampering yourself in a beautiful room with your hair and makeup done but wearing beautiful lingerie, accessories and headpieces while feeling royalty. I named the shoot ‘Le Boudoir Mariees ‘which means ‘The Boudoir Married’ in French.
What wardrobe elements did you use to create the mood and atmosphere?
The main wardrobe elements that were used were my exclusive custom made bridal headpieces which feature throughout the shoot. These pieces were made using delicate lace, Swarovski crystals and beaded fresh water pearls. We also focused on the luxurious lingerie with exquisite ivory and cream tone silk, Chantilly lace and chiffon printed robes, lush berry tone lace bras and vintage fur wraps to create a boudoir style atmosphere. We also used a mixture of textured cushions and throw rugs to create a soft comfortable romantic setting just like in an old vintage French movie.
What was the overall theme of the shoot?
The overall theme of the shoot was a Parisian style bridal boudoir studio with a romantic and elegant feel. I wanted to create a fairytale setting so that a bride to be could look at the images and instantly become inspired to create her own boudoir style setting for her wedding day. This shoot was all about the bride and her maids getting ready in their luxurious lingerie moments before they are dressed in their wedding day attire.
What were the key colours?
The colour tones were a muted vintage finish with tones of creamy pink, champagne and soft green, with a contrast of rich mahogany tones throughout the props and setting. The dark mahogany color was also used on one of the models lips to create a vintage glamour look against her stunning flawless pale skin and dark hair.
How did it all come together on the day? How did it feel seeing all the elements combined finally to create these magical images?
As this shoot was a strong vision and concept which I had wanted to bring to life for a while, I decided to do all of the styling, makeup and hair. It was an absolute honor to work with such stunning models and a fantastic photographer Robert Coppa who essentially let me be the creative director on the day. Tristen Cassar also provided his eye for detail and set design and helped set up the decorations and surroundings for each shot. The Viktoria Novak boutique studio is filled with shabby chic French inspired romantic furniture and deco so it was the foundation and main essential ingredient for our shoot. We shot on location in the studio and even played old French music to get the models to really feel inspired to be in the moment.
