Destination weddings are often lavish affairs filled with luxury, romance and sunshine. Nabi and Oskar’s special day was no exception. The couple experienced a dreamy destination wedding in Phuket, Thailand.
Blossoming Romance…
Nabi and Oskar first met in Ethiopia in 2016. Sparks flew immediately and the couple quickly fell head over heels for one another. During a romantic getaway to Phuket a few years later, Oskar got down on one knee and asked Nabi to marry him. The proposal was such a special moment for Nabi and Oskar which is ultimately why the Italy-based couple decided to have a destination wedding in Thailand.
Cultural Combo…
Nabi and Oskar knew their destiny early on and began discussing wedding details before their engagement. When it came to planning the special day, the couple knew they wanted a very personal and intimate ceremony. “We wanted to have the ceremony on the beach, at sunset.” says Nabi. From here, the couple aimed to incorporate elements from their four cultures; Tanzanian, Swedish, Ethiopian and Eritrean.
Change Of Plans…
Initially, the couple had planned to tie the knot in Hua Hin, Thailand. They were sold on the idea of a fashionable escape to a seaside summer palace. However, after falling in love with the works of Ilaire, a wedding planner from Wedding Boutique Phuket, they decided to change the location so that she could assist with their planning. “She did not disappoint at all and was the best decision we made!” says Nabi. Together, they decided the wedding theme was going to be a pastel beach wedding with a touch of black!
Girl Power…
The three leading ladies in Nabi’s life were her bridesmaids for the big day. Nabi recalls that getting ready with her girls was one of her favourite memories of the day. Each were donned in luxurious floral robes and drank red wine while they got glammed up. Two of the bridesmaids wore floor length, floaty, peach dresses while her maid of honour’s look incorporated a touch of black with an off-the-shoulder black maxi dress.
Fit For A Princess…
Nabi’s Viola Chan wedding gown from Oleg Cassini was elegant perfection! The mermaid silhouette effortlessly combined a traditional ivory lace overlay with a contemporary design. This featured a plunging neckline and criss-cross back. To complete the look, Nabi’s bridal bouquet was a vision of extravagant excellence. The radiant combination of ivory roses, orange tulips and rustic greenery added a fun and whimsical element to her bridal look.
Old School Fellas…
Oskar had two groomsmen who both wore white button up shirts, sandstone coloured trousers and black suspenders by Moreal Roma, giving them a vintage look. Oskar wore a dapper beige suit paired with a Monreal Roma bowtie to add a touch of retro charm to his groom attire.
Electric Emotions…
The couple recall the ceremony on Nai Yang beach as an emotion fuelled experience, filled with love and laughter. “Watching Nabayet walk down the aisle, I had to hold back my tears!” the groom tells us. After the procession, the couple included an Ethiopian tradition where they greeted and kissed the parents. “It was so beautiful to watch my groom and mom” the bride recalls.
Stylish Reception…
Nabi and Oskar’s reception was held at the stunning Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa. The venue followed the pastel peach with a touch of black colour scheme. The space was adorned with delicate flowers and candles in different shades of orange which were complemented by black napkins and dim lighting.
Words Of Wisdom…
After a fabulous day of love and celebration, Nabi has some words of advice to share with all of the future brides who are in the midst of wedding planning. “Make sure you have wedding planner and plan ahead of time. A spreadsheet we created a year before the wedding helped us achieve the wedding we had set a budget for” shares Nabi.
