The 14th February is always a funny day for couples, especially for those who are not into over-the-top romance, or the Valentine’s Day Ideas that are full of cliches. So are you wanting to avoid red heart balloons, expensive dinner dates and a thousand red roses? We have compiled a list of cute, low-key ideas that you can enjoy together and focus on what really matters…the both of you!
Cocktail Evening…
Why not swap the expensive cocktail bars, surrounded by lots of people for a homemade cocktail evening (you could even wear pyjamas)! We like the idea of turning it into a friendly competition – judge each others drinks on design, taste and creativity. A little competition is healthy right?
Walk & Picnic…
We love the idea of late afternoon/early evening walks, especially if its a balmy day! Go on your favourite walk or find a new location to savour together. Once you find a beautiful spot, enjoy your picnic with no-one around and watch the sun go down. It’s our favourite way to enjoy romantic time together without being over-the-top.
Lunch Date…
With Valentine’s Day on a Sunday, it means you have the whole day to relish together. If dinner dates are a little cliche for you, go to your favourite lunch spot instead. This way you can keep it as casual or as dressy as you would like!
Breakfast In Bed…
Name a better way to start the day than breakfast in bed, on a Sunday, with your loved one? Despite being an insta-worthy activity, it is a rare occasion for many. Enjoy the perks of a hotel for a fraction of the price! So grab the OJ, make the coffee, heat up the french pastries and snuggle back into bed together (perfect for a rainy day).
Visit Your Special Place…
Every couple has a place they both love or that has sentimental value. Use this day to visit and recollect the moments around this place. Maybe it’s where you got married? Talk about the day you shared together and all the special memories. Some may say this is cheesy but we love to revisit old happy memories and think it’s super important in a relationship.
Movie Night…
Is there anything better than gathering your favourite snacks to settle down and watch your favourite movie, or even a movie you have wanted to watch together but haven’t had the chance? Movie nights are a great and inexpensive way to date and spend time together.
Cook Together…
Valentine’s Day is usually a day where people would choose to not visit a restaurant, especially with set menus, ‘love’ themes everywhere and surrounded by other couples. Instead, cook together and enjoy the quality time. With busy schedules, couples tend to not have the opportunity to cook or eat dinner together. Use this time to find a new recipe and experiment!
PJ Day…
Does anyone else look for a good excuse to have a lounge day? I know after lockdown you are probably sick of these types of days but since becoming busier again, why not give it ago! Pj days usually come with guilt thinking you should be doing more, but use this day to unwind, chill out together, eat lots of food, and binge watch Netflix. Quality time doesn’t always have to be expensive or busy.
