Wedding invitations are the first impression that your guests will receive about your special day, so you want to get it right! Avoid any big no, no’s and make sure you have all the right information to keep your wedding planning running smoothly. We have created a super-easy guide to help you through the dos and don’ts of wedding invitations!
DOs:
It’s all in the detail…
The last thing you want on your special day is people turning up at the wrong time or even on the wrong day! Double and triple check to avoid the stress and make sure that all the important information is included. The invitation MUST include the following elements; who’s hosting, the request, you and partners name, date and time, location, reception info, dress code and of course, RSVP details.
Save the date or be late…
Ensure that you give your guests a decent amount of notice for the wedding date. A save the date is a great way to let your guests know well in advance (particularly for destination weddings that require flights and hotel bookings) and will ensure everyone you want to be there will! A save the date usually goes out between six to eight months before the wedding and the invitation themselves usually go out six-eight weeks before the big day.
Get creative…
Have a theme that flows through your invitations, into your big day! Keep your theme consistent from the beginning to the end of your wedding journey. Getting creative and matching your invitations with your wedding theme will also give guests a sneak peek into what the ceremony will look like. First impressions count, so get the look on point!
RSVP…
Make sure there is an easy RSVP process for your guests. An online RSVP service is a quick and easy way for guests to RSVP and makes it easy for you to keep track of who is coming. It’s also important to include a phone number for some of your less tech-savvy guests. You can also use an RSVP service to include registry information and any other information that doesn’t fit on your invitation.
Crystal clear…
Deciding on the guest list is the toughest part of any wedding, so make sure that you are clear about who is actually invited! Address your envelopes formally with the invitee’s full names and be as clear as possible to avoid any awkward unwanted guest encounters on your special day. The last thing you want is for your special day to be a sequel to The Wedding Crashers!
DON’Ts:
Less is more…
Keep your invite to the point and don’t go overboard on the details or design. Keep the variety of fonts to a maximum of two and make sure it is clear and easy to read. Leave out the info about any pre-wedding events to avoid confusion and create a crisp and clear invitation that only has the necessary.
Go offline…
Don’t send your invites by text or email! Physical cards are a massive MUST for any wedding invitations. E-vites may seem like a great cost-cutting option, but avoid the stress of spam folders and unsent invitations by sending out a physical invitation. It is also a great keepsake for family and friends to remember your special day.
Check, check, check…
Avoid any awkward mistakes and typos by checking the invitations at least a million times! A simple number mistake could result in guests turning up at the wrong time or wrong day and once they are printed and sent, there is very little that can be done. Giving your draft invitation to a family member or friend is a great way to cover yourself and ensure everything is perfect.
Play it safe…
Don’t skip out on ordering extra invitations and envelopes than you actually need! The last thing you want is to be left short and have to go back to the printer last minute. Take the stress out of the process and leave yourself enough for a personal memento and for any extra guests that you forget to invite or who never receive their invites. It’s always better to play it safe!
