From elongated diamonds and unexpected stacks to rare coloured stones, these are the engagement ring trends we’ll be seeing everywhere.
When it comes to choosing the ring, today’s couples are rewriting the rules.
Bigger isn’t necessarily better. Matching isn’t mandatory. And the classic solitaire? It’s still very much having its moment – just with a distinctly modern twist.
Instead, couples are becoming more considered about what they want from a ring they’ll potentially wear every day for the rest of their lives. Think exceptional stones, beautiful craftsmanship, unexpected details and designs that feel deeply personal rather than simply prescribed by tradition.
According to Moi Moi Fine Jewellery founders Lauren Sommer and Alana Chang-Weirick, that shift is already playing out in their Sydney and Melbourne stores.
“We’re seeing buyers are more specific than ever about wanting premium, hand-selected stones rather than just chasing a bigger number on a certificate,” says Alana. “Lab grown diamond remains the clear default choice, but Moissanite is quietly picking up ground as buyers get more educated about what it offers. Quality is leading the conversation right now.”
So, what will we be seeing on hands in 2026, 2027 and beyond?
Quite simply: more personality, more choice and a lot more sparkle.
Quality over carat size
For years, engagement ring conversations tended to begin with one question: How many carats?
Not anymore.
Increasingly, couples are looking beyond the number on the certificate and paying closer attention to the quality of the stone, the craftsmanship of the setting and how beautifully the entire ring comes together.
It’s a more considered approach to what is, after all, one of the most sentimental pieces of jewellery you’ll ever own.
Moi Moi has watched that evolution firsthand. The Australian family-owned jeweller introduced Moissanite to the Australian market in 2004 and has spent more than two decades specialising in the stone, alongside its collection of premium lab grown diamonds.

For the bride who loves timeless simplicity, the Annerley SUPERNOVA Moissanite Solitaire is exactly the kind of ring that proves classic never has to mean predictable. A round Moissanite sits in a six-prong setting on a delicate knife-edge band – refined, elegant and effortlessly enduring.
Lab grown diamonds are firmly in the spotlight
If you’ve been engagement-ring shopping lately, you’ll already know that lab grown diamonds are no longer the alternative choice – they’re a major part of the conversation.
For modern couples, their appeal lies in being able to prioritise stone, design and overall impact while having greater flexibility with budget.
And when paired with one of the most coveted shapes of the moment – the oval – the result is particularly irresistible.
The Hattie Oval combines a four-prong oval lab grown diamond with a sparkling under-rail and bridge, all sitting on a beautifully refined tapered band. The effect is minimal, but definitely not forgettable.
For something even more pared back, the Holly Oval lets the centre stone do the talking, pairing an oval lab grown diamond with a delicate half-rounded solitaire band.
Both feel modern now, without looking like rings you’ll tire of in ten years’ time.

The perfectly matching wedding set is officially optional
Here’s a trend we love: your engagement ring and wedding band no longer need to look as though they came as a set.
In fact, increasingly, the beauty is in the contrast.
Different metals. Different diamond shapes. A curved band against a classic solitaire. A delicate engagement ring teamed with something unexpected. Couples are building stacks that look collected and personal rather than perfectly coordinated.
“The stacking trend is really clear on the shop floor,” says Lauren. “It’s a big shift from even ten years ago. Even someone choosing a completely classic Harmony or Hattie will often reach for a slightly different metal or a non-matching band next to it, just to make the set feel more personal.”

And that may be what makes this trend so appealing: there’s no formula.
Your rings can evolve with you – adding an anniversary band, another metal or a completely different shape later – so the stack becomes a little jewellery autobiography of your life together.
Elongated cuts are having a serious moment
If there’s one engagement ring trend showing no signs of slowing down, it’s the rise of elongated silhouettes.
Oval. Pear. Radiant. Marquise.
They have elegance, drama and a beautifully flattering effect on the hand – and according to Moi Moi, they’re among the shapes couples are requesting most.
“Elongated shapes are where all the momentum is right now,” says Lauren. “Oval, Pear, Radiant are best sellers with Marquise coming in strong. They flatter the finger, they make a stone look bigger than its actual carat weight, and they still read as classic rather than trend-driven.”
Which, really, is engagement-ring nirvana: of-the-moment without feeling overly trendy.
The Hattie Oval and Holly Oval offer beautifully timeless interpretations of the trend, while the Josefa Marquise turns the volume up.
Featuring a six-prong marquise-cut lab grown diamond, sparkling under-rail and an alternating band of round and marquise accent stones, Josefa feels glamorous, directional and designed to be noticed.

Then there’s the Allegra Radiant. With its radiant-cut centre stone flanked by two Cadillac side stones, this is unapologetically a statement ring – bold, luxurious and incredibly chic.

Statement rings are getting more interesting
Minimalism isn’t going anywhere – but neither is maximalism.
And for couples who want their engagement ring to feel less expected, statement designs are becoming increasingly creative.
Rather than simply choosing a larger version of a traditional ring, the new statement ring is about shape, orientation, setting and detail.
The Alana ring is a perfect example.
Its pear-cut lab grown diamond is turned horizontally in an east-west setting and positioned on a gently curved band, with three accent stones and a sparkling under-rail adding even more interest.

It’s distinctive without being gimmicky – and exactly the kind of ring that makes you look twice.
Because perhaps one of the biggest changes in bridal jewellery is that there’s no longer a single definition of what an engagement ring should look like.
And we are very much here for it.
Coloured gemstones are the new conversation starter
White diamonds may forever be iconic, but coloured gemstones are bringing something altogether different to engagement rings: individuality.
And no two are quite the same.
For couples drawn to colour, Alana says choosing a stone is something worth doing in person.
“Every coloured stone we carry is hand-selected, genuinely rare, hard to source at good quality, and no two are ever quite identical.”
She says it’s also why Moi Moi keeps its full collection available to view at its Sydney and Melbourne flagship stores rather than relying solely on online imagery.
“There’s a common misconception that you can generate whatever colour and quality you want on demand, but that’s not how it works.”
And perhaps that rarity is precisely the appeal.
A coloured stone doesn’t simply look different. It gives a ring its own personality – and makes the process of finding your particular stone feel all the more special.

The biggest trend of all? Choosing what you love
Trends are wonderful places to start. But if there’s one thing defining the next generation of engagement rings, it’s the freedom to ignore them.
Choose the oval because you’ve always loved it.
Mix your metals.
Wear Moissanite.
Choose a lab grown diamond.
Fall for the marquise everyone told you was “too different”.

Find a coloured gemstone unlike anyone else’s.
Because the ring you’ll still adore decades from now probably isn’t the one you chose because everybody else was wearing it.
It’s the one that feels unmistakably like you.
For couples wanting to see, compare and try designs in person, Moi Moi holds its full collection in stock at its Sydney and Melbourne flagship stores. For those further afield, the jeweller also offers virtual consultations and a Home Try-On service, allowing clients to try a sample ring at home before making their decision.
Family-owned and run, Moi Moi has more than 20 years’ experience helping Australian couples navigate one of the loveliest purchases they’ll ever make – with an emphasis on premium stones, personal service and finding a ring that feels completely your own.
