Tips For Keeping Safe At A Covid-19 Wedding

Modern Wedding Posted: August 18, 2020

A global pandemic is definitely something that nobody saw coming for 2020! While it’s been a tough year, it’s been amazing to see how people have been able to adapt and celebrate their love despite the challenging circumstances. So, whether you’re planning a lockdown wedding or attending a ceremony during the pandemic, we’ve rounded up the most helpful Covid-19 wedding tips to keep you safe!

Never Been Cleaner…

2020 has been the year that hand sanitiser sales probably increased by about 10,000%, and for very good reason! So if you’re tying the knot soon, make sure there is a seemingly never-ending supply of anti-bacterial hand sanitiser available. Brides and grooms should make sure that hand sanitiser is easily accessible for all guests throughout the whole wedding. This can be done by having bottles on every table or gifting each guest with a small personalised bottle of hand sanitiser as a wedding favour. If you’re attending a wedding as a guest, remember to keep a small bottle of hand sanitiser in your handbag so that you can easily access it whenever you need.

Safety First…

Whether you’re a bride, a groom, or a wedding guest, make sure to stock up on face masks before the main event! If you’re a guest, bring a few disposable masks to get you through the celebrations or invest in a reusable fabric face mask. You can even buy a mask with a super cute design so that it’ll match your gorgeous wedding outfit! If you’re hosting a wedding, remember that some guests might forget to bring their own masks so it’s important to have enough face masks available for everyone who might need one.

Digital Age…

Gifts are always beyond delightful to receive but amidst a global pandemic, it might not be the most hygienic option. Wishing wells have also become tricky as everyone is making an effort to avoid coming into contact with cash. A great alternative for both is moving everything online! You can create an online gift registry so that wedding gifts don’t have to pass hands before you receive them. Or, if you and your partner are opting for a wishing well, set up a page where your guests can send you an online funds transfer so that payments can stay contactless. Not only are these more hygienic options, but they’re actually much easier than the alternative so we’ll probably keep up this trend even when the pandemic is over!

Keep Your Distance…

Don’t forget the all-important social distancing! Throughout the day, make sure you’re keeping a safe distance from the other guests at the wedding and wash your hands as often as possible. It’s super important to minimise the amount of physical contact between guests so brides and grooms might need to come up with a new approach to things like the beloved guest book. Creating a digital guest book is a great alternative and can be filled out by your wedding guests at home. Or, if you have your heart set on a physical guest book, suggest that everyone attending the wedding brings their own pen.

Wedding From Home…

If you’re feeling under the weather in any capacity, DO NOT ATTEND THE WEDDING! Even if it’s just a little tickle in your throat, it’s way better to be safe than sorry in times like these. If you’re getting married, send out a reminder in the lead up to your wedding that if any guests have been unwell, you completely understand that they need to stay at home. Plus, if it’s possible to live-stream your ceremony, anyone who can’t attend due to sickness will still be able to tune in and enjoy the magic of the day from home!

The Waiting Game…

Something for newlyweds to take into consideration during the pandemic is the timing of their wedding photos. Usually, couples have their photos taken between the ceremony and reception but it could be worth considering having the wedding photos taken before the ceremony. This way, guests don’t have to wait around for long periods of time between events.
