RSVPS, the most dreaded part of any bride or groom’s wedding planning. So how soon is too soon to follow up with your guests whether they are coming to your big day or not? Here is the wedding RSVP etiquette you need to know!

The Guest List…
Aim to give your guests around 6-8 weeks notice before your big day. Guests should have received a save the date memo even earlier (say 6 months in advance). Sending invites out too early will mean people will likely put off getting back to you until closer to the day. Keep your invites clear and concise so there is no shadow of doubt as to how guests RSVP and when by.
Give A Date…
You will need confirmed number of people at least 2 or more weeks before the big day, to provide to the caterers, venue etc, so it is ESSENTIAL that you get all invites back to you before this time. Be precise on when you need the RSVPS back by, wording such as: “Please respond by April 11” or “We would love you to let us know you are coming by April 11”, are gentle yet detailed enough for people to understand.
Give people a date that isn’t too close to the cut off date, so you can have a little wriggle room to touch base with people who haven’t responded yet.
Make It Simple…
Making returning your RSVP cards simple and pain free for your guests will help you get them back sooner. Give guests simple instructions on how to fill out the cards – a tick yes or no box is a no brainer, as well as a dietary requirements option for those who have allergies. Provide already addressed and pre-stamped return envelopes so your guests don’t need to go digging for a stamp or trying to find your address. Your invites are also a great way to feature your wedding theme, you can check out some ideas for wedding themed invitations here.
HOT TIP: Number your RSVPs so you will know who has sent theirs back. (Trust us, there is always someone who will send one back with NO NAME!)
Due Date Woes…
So it is past the RSVP due date.. what is protocol? How soon after can you call everyone you know and go full bridezilla on them? Give your invitees a 5-7 day grace period after the invites are due, to give them the benefit of the doubt that their card is on its way into your hot little hands.
Once the grace period has passed you can now (finally) give them a call or flick them a casual email or text checking whether they can make it or not. Tell them that your suppliers need to know numbers, hence the importance of getting back to you asap. Most people will appreciate the follow up and will let you know the status of their invite soon after.
If you’re planning a luxury wedding, you will love these invitations!
