Modern Wedding caught up with Rebecca Lau, bridal fashion commentator, celebrity stylist and the Director of WhiteRunway.com.au She shares with us the latest in bridesmaid fashion as well as new trends to look out for.
One Colour, Different Styles
Brides and Bridesmaids are loving the idea of one colour in different styles for their bridal party. This is a huge trend at the moment as it keeps within the bride’s colour themes and also allows for each bridesmaid to express their own individuality and style. This is great when you have a bridal party consisting of different sizes and shapes. It’s now more about getting the right ‘party dress’ as opposed to a uniform.
Sheer Detailing and Creams
Sheer mesh with detailing and motifs has become a huge trend for bridesmaid dresses. The sheer mesh and delicate detailing evokes femininity and romance and has been a popular style for vintage inspired weddings. Bridal parties are also leaning towards lighter, creamier colours which were previously a huge no-no. Bridesmaids are being allowed to wear creams, neutrals and ivory colours. This has no doubt been driven by recent celebrity weddings including Kate Moss, Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian.
White Bridesmaid Dresses
We will continue seeing a trend towards whiter and lighter bridesmaid dresses which will start to look like Bridal gowns. In the most recent bridal shows in New York we saw a huge trend towards pink wedding dresses by designers such as Vera Wang. This will further push the trend towards having bridesmaid dresses whiter and bridal gowns with more colour.
Ombre Tones
There will also be an ombre bridesmaid dress trend. Moving away from the uniform look, bridesmaids will be wearing different tones of the one colour. Ombre pinks, peaches and purples will be the most popular. Ombre tones are great in photos and again allow bridesmaids to pick and choose the colour that best suits them.
