Equestrian elegance was the style of this secluded wedding, surrounded by nature in the grounds of the Sydney Polo Club.

We first met…
Our story began with an intriguing conversation in Newtown… Tim had my curiosity, but he had to leave shortly after that introduction because he wanted to listen to Triple J’s Top 100 songs of all time. I later realised that he had attempted to play coy and nearly blew it. Five months into dating I was accepted into a Graduate Program with first rotation in Darwin. Tim was in the middle of his carpentry apprenticeship in Sydney. And right there is where any normality in the courtship came to a halt. Without much of a strategy we gave long distance dating a shot. For six months we flew back and forth from Darwin on weekends. Then I was transferred to Canberra. For 18 months we drove back and forth from Canberra on weekends. Two years later I received a job offer in Sydney. It took another two years of adjusting to life in the same postcode before we finally acknowledged that sometimes when you know, you just know.
The proposal…
Tim popped the question by a bonfire on a deserted beach at Crowdy Head NSW, on New Years Eve 2014.

Our photographer…
Emanuel is a brilliant communicator that instantly makes you feel at ease in order to capture natural and candid shots. We didn’t have a long time between ceremony and reception but Emanuel was so calm under crazy wedding pressure. We love that Emanuel and Mary photograph from the heart as opposed to just capturing the standard portrait shots, which makes their pictures speak for themselves.
The ceremony & reception…
Our wedding was held at the Sydney Polo Club. Our ceremony took place in the Grandstand and our reception in the Polo Barn. From the outset we wanted our wedding to be held in a single beautiful location with a sense of nature and privacy. The Sydney Polo Club holds its own character and we chose Oak & Linden to style our wedding to create equestrian elegance within the existing styling. Melissa from Oak & Linden developed our ideas to create a concept that exceeded our expectations. Melissa used the Polo theming of the venue by using wood and leather, such as leather luggage tags that served the dual purpose of name tag and guests wedding favours. The use of white floral arrangements, silverware and historic inspired furniture was a nod to the rich traditions of the game. The overall effect of the open fields, raw textured surfaces and over-scaled barn doors against luxury and sophistication created effortless understated elegance.
After the ceremony, in the Grandstand, guests wandered through the beautiful grounds toward the live jazz music on the lawn of the Polo Barn. Once on the lawn, guests enjoyed champagne, canapés and a gelato cart as the sun went down.
Our guests were then moved into the Polo Barn to enjoy shared feast dining by L’Amour Catering. The menu included baked salmon, slow roasted pork belly, mustard crusted beef scotch fillet and fragrant roast chicken with sides and roving desserts. After dinner a whisky bar was opened under the stars, where guests could curl up on the leather sofas under a blanket or dance the night away to the six-piece The White Tree band, wearing gifted white havaianas.
The gown…
I chose the Sottero & Midgley ‘Abrianna’ gown from Abbey Bridal with Giana-II Badgley Mischka heels. My hairpiece was the necklace my grandmother wore on her wedding day. Timothy chose to wear an MJ Bale suit in dark blue.
A special moment…
We danced to Al Green’s ‘Let’s stay together’ performed live by The White Tree. Our dance was choreographed and rehearsed with the help of Jennifer from Your Bridal Dance.
The future…
We plan to laugh a lot, keep dreaming together and always remember how wonderful it is to share our life with each other.
Words of wisdom…
Read your vows regularly in the month leading up to the wedding. It was a wonderful thing to be in the present saying the words while looking into each other’s eyes. Without the need for prompting or looking down to read from paper.
