Today I’m am very excited to be bringing you a gorgeous themed fashion shoot showcasing some gorgeous couture headpieces by Sydney-based Milliner Viktoria Novak. The headpieces created for this shoot were vintage-inspired, featuring beaded pearls, crystals, draping across the face and a beautiful layered effect of intricate flowers and delicate materials. I love the sun-soaked, soft feminine bohemian feel and the gorgeous rural locale. There’s a sense of magic that runs through these images, almost like a modern-day fairytale.
The shoot was a collaboration between Viktoria and Photographer Elanna Woods. “We both wanted to acheive a soft feminine natural look that oozed simplicity and nothing but beauty!” says Viktoria. “We loved the idea of shooting a ‘look’ that could represent a bride and her bridesmaid with a sisterly love feel. The idea of bridesmaids wearing white has significantly increased as a hot trend since the royal wedding of Katherine Middleton & Prince William after Pippa Middleton wore a stunning white gown alongside her beautiful sister.”
Viktoria and her team used a palette of white, soft creams and a hint of green. “We were lucky to have the white horse, rabbit and geese,” says Viktoria. “They featured as our special guests for the shoot.”
The overall atmosphere of the shoot was a dreamy, feminine fantasy, inspired by afternoon light, long grass, nature, white animals, beauty and femininity. The team shot on a property near Cooma in New South Wales. “It was very cold, but we were so lucky with the weather as the afternoon sun saturated the property which provided the perfect backdrop for the theme and overall look. Our models Katie & Deirdre did an amazing job interacting with the animals and braving the chills.”
I asked Viktoria what inspires her to create a headpiece: “My style is very eccentric, vintage, feminine and elegant,” she says. “My inspiration can be driven from a piece of fabric, colour, theme or beads. I love old vintage images, nostalgic memories and unusual places around the world. At the moment, my current collection is inspired by the vintage glam of the 1930s with exquisite fitted skull caps, intricately detailed embroidered flowers, pearls draping onto the forehead and around the face. I treat each exclusive piece that I create as a piece of art with multiple layers and a true reflection of the personality of the client.”
“I love nothing more than to create exquisite personalised exclusive headpieces for brides on the most important day of their life. There is something so special about being part of a bride’s day and the biggest reward for me personally is seeing their smile. The moment they place their special piece on their head is priceless.”
Viktoria hopes that in sharing her shoot, brides-to-be will be inspired to feature a handmade headpiece that really represents their personality. She also loves the idea of incorporating a little more nature and personal history into the big day. “Hold handpicked flowers from the garden, get married in a beautiful location – or a place that has a special meaning to you – incorporate a piece of heirloom jewellery,” says Viktoria. “Nature is something that is priceless (and also a savvy bride’s best friend). It’s about capturing the moments of love through beautiful surroundings. Less is more.”
