A Christmas Day Romance

Modern Wedding Posted: September 22, 2017

A Christmas Day Engagement set the tone for this fairytale wedding held in Dubbo.

Young love…

Josh & Katie met when they were 19 but knew it was love almost straight away, “We knew it was love after we had been dating for a couple months. Everything between us just felt right” Katie says.

The best christmas gift…

“It was Christmas Day 2016, it was just the 2 of us exchanging presents. We had our entire family coming to our house for lunch so was lovely to be able to share the excitement with them all on the day”.

The big day…

The couple wanted a fun day, that wasn’t stressful or rushed. Katie wanted to keep the styling simple and classy, deciding on navy, pink and silver as the colour scheme and held their ceremony at St Andrew’s Chapel, Dubbo and celebrated their reception at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre.

The Convention Centre was a very new establishment so Katie wanted the room to be its own major decoration. “The tables had a navy lace runner on top of white tablecloths. I added small decorations like table centrepieces which were flowerpots from Early Settler along with a silver candlestick. Wood table numbers and signs I sprayed with silver glitter, white chair sashes on black leather chairs and tea lights with a light pink paper wrap”.

“Friends of ours organised a large “LOVE” sign for us to have on the dance floor” Katie says.

Family and friends…

Josh had 4 groomsmen and Katie 4 bridesmaids, all family and close friends to the couple, “Our Bridal party consisted of Josh’s sister Jodie and brother-in-law Rees and extremely close lifelong friends, Carly, Zillah, Laken, Scott, Mark and Shaun”.

Navy hues…

In keeping with Katie and Josh’s classic navy colour scheme the bridesmaids wore floor length, navy Review dresses, paired with a bracelet and earrings from Kings Hall Jewellers, Dubbo gifted by the bride. Whilst both Josh and the groomsmen went for Van Heusen suits from Myer and Windsor Smith shoes.

Champagne gold…

Katie fell in love with her dress when she saw the beaded jacket that paired with the gown, allowing the Essence of Australia gown to have two totally different looks. “My dress was more like a champagne gold in colour with a beaded jacket. I purchased the dress from The Wedding Shoppe, Dubbo”.

The choice of pink peonies and white roses paired perfectly with Katie’s champagne gown, “we had articifical flowers as one of my bridesmaids has allergies and I wanted my bouquet to last forever! We purchased all the flowers loose from Early Settler and I arranged the bouquets and my mum finished them off”, she says.

A dream come true…

Katie’s mother had always dreamed to make her daughters wedding cake and “she nailed it!”. Other highlights of the night for the newlyweds were the bridal party photos, which was a great chance for everyone to laugh and relax a little with the bridal party and for Katie, walking down the aisle was her most treasured moment of the day. “I think one major moment for me was walking down the aisle. This moment has been something I have dreamed about for years and it was finally here” Katie says.

Married life and plans for the future…

The couple had a much needed break on their honeymoon in Bali after a whirlwind 5 month engagement and in 40 years hope to “have health, love, family and happiness. What more could you want”.
