The Couple Challenge – How To Survive Quarantine Together

Modern Wedding Posted: April 3, 2020

Let’s be honest, being stuck inside with ANYONE for a long period of time isn’t easy. During the Covid-19 outbreak, many couples are quarantined at home and everyone is practicing social distancing. That means a lot of additional time with your loved ones! We have a guide to help you and your partner survive quarantine together.

The Limit Does Exist…

You wouldn’t spend 24 hours together every day, so why would you do that now? You don’t need to be together every waking minute and in fact, you should make sure you have some time apart. This is crucial, as spending way too much time together can be overwhelming and add unnecessary stress to your relationship. It also gives you the chance to miss each other!

The Chore Wheel…

While we don’t literally mean have a chore wheel, we do recommend being very mindful of both helping around the house. You will be home all day, so there will be more dishes to clean, more meals to be made and more general chores to take care of. Make sure you are splitting up the responsibilities and both contributing to the household. Hey, if a chore wheel works, give it a go! This one is especially important if you have kids at home as well!

WFH…

If you and your partner are working from home, try to work separately. Phone calls, video chats, and constant typing can annoy anyone. Working in different rooms will make it feel more like an office and will mean it’s a real treat when you do get to see your partner!

Communication Is Key…

This is a difficult time so be sure to communicate with your partner! Feeling stressed? Chat to them. Need some space? Let them know. Be open and honest. Communication is always a crucial component of a relationship and this stressful time makes it even more important. Be sure to talk about your stresses and anxieties in particular, as these can really creep up on you.

Not Too Much…

While communicating is key, there’s no need to go crazy. You don’t need to pass the time by having long, tense, difficult conversations. Keep in mind that you might be stuck together for a while so there’s no need to bring up every thought you have!

Date Night…

Just because you are stuck together, doesn’t mean all romance needs to go out the window! Be sure to still have a romantic time together. This will help you both relax and have some quality time together. Don’t know how to have a date in quarantine? Fair enough. We have a list of ideas for you!

It Won’t Last Forever…

Keep reminding yourself and your partner that this isn’t forever! Things will get better and you’ll be able to leave the house before you know it! Try and see the positive side and enjoy the quality time you have together. Spread positivity however you can!

Treat Yourself…

Taking care of yourself during this time is SO important. Even though you’re isolated with a partner, you still need some time set aside to take care of yourself. That may be some pampering, a walk around the block or just a solo glass of wine!

Be Considerate…

So imagine this…you’ve done your weekly shop and you’ve got a packet of Tim Tams in the pantry. You are saving one for an afternoon treat and when you go to grab it, you realise something horrible…there are none left. Your partner has powered through the packet! This is a big quarantine no-no. When it comes to things like food, you need to be especially considerate during this time.
