The Meeting…
Through a very close friend at our local 11 years ago in April.
Love…
After about 3 weeks, whilst he was playing the guitar to me on the front door step of his parents place.
The Proposal…
Callan managed to completely surprise me even after all these years. It was a Friday night in July 2013, 1 year after we’d moved into our home. I was easily distracted by another gift he strategically gave me to throw me off my game and as I turned around BOOM, there he was on one knee in the kitchen with black box in his hands. I think I swore at him and cried a million happy tears. He had my ring made and it was everything I always wanted and more.
Wedding Style…
We wanted a relaxed wedding with a rustic glam feel. Colours were very neutral, lots of white and fresh greenery with a splash of copper.
The Dress…
My wedding gown was more than I ever dreamt it to be. I wanted something simple, elegant and flattering, but most of all to be comfortable and just be me. I saw the dress on a photographer’s site not long after we were engaged. So I did what any woman would do and contacted the photographer directly who kindly reached out to the bride to find out all the details. It was the first dress I saw, enquired about and tried on. And so “the dress” story should end happily ever after here… but of course it doesn’t.
Even though everything about the Jane Hill Lottie was perfect I was convinced to do the traditional book a million appointments in one day and try on a thousand dresses. For any one else going dress shopping soon I would strongly advise that you avoid this strategy at all costs.
So, some how at a fitting in the penthouse of The Olsen the combination of champagne or two, the very convincing words of the sales girl, my bridesmaids and my mum, I ended up putting a down payment on the wrong dress. I spent the next 24 hours tyring to convince myself that I loved it and it wasn’t until a close friend said “Did you get THE dress?” and I said no and started crying that I realised I’d made the wrong decision. So I called, cancelled my down payment, which I was lucky enough to get back and called Jane Hill to make an appointment for my first dress fitting.
Bridesmaids’ Dress…
Ginger & Smart Dress with Tony Bianco shoes and jewellery from Shopbop.com.
Flowers…
Rita at Blooming Brides is amazing. You really can trust her to work her magic with the smallest amount of direction. I asked for white flowers that were in season and lots of greenery, loose and a little messy looking.
Decorations…
Most of the decorating was left in the hands of the team at Blooming Brides and Zonzo’s. We had 3 flower chandeliers hanging from the beams above both long tables, which filled the room nicely. Flower arrangements were also scattered along the tables and around the venue in Copper tins and jars that were also decorated with copper spray paint.
I added my own touches with our designs on signs and candles that also doubled as place cards and are now available made to order at Your Love is Art on facebook and instagram @yourloveisart.
On the Menu…
Antipasto to Start followed by Woodfired Pizza Entrée, Roast Lamb & Chicken with seasonal vegetables for mains all served on share platters. Dessert was Passionfruit Sponge Wedding Cake and fresh berries
Wedding Bomboniere…
Bomboniere were made by Your Love is Art, customised candles that also doubled as place cards for guests.
Wedding Photography…
Lyndel from 35mm Wedding Photography is a family friend of the Laughton’s. I’ve always been a huge fan of her and Daniel’s work and was so excited to have them shoot our wedding. Whilst we would have loved to have them enjoy our wedding as guests as well, I can not thank them enough for capturing our day so beautifully. I’ll be forever grateful, because we love everything. They’re so natural and are really just us. Which is what we always wanted.
Memories…
Stopping for a nervous pit stop at the local pub in Lilydale and sneaking in a quick pot of beer with my Dad, Father in Law and bridesmaids before walking down the isle.
The best memory was driving from the church to the reception with my new husband, just the two of us, in his old Mercedes that we first met in all those years ago.
Wedding Music…
Interlude London Grammar
Truth Bloc Party
Close to Me The Cure
Sweet Thing Van Morrison
Honeymoon…
Natadola Bay, Fiji
The Future…
Our 5 year plan is to move to the foot hills of the Dandenong’s, focus on the family business and our own little projects, and hopefully if we are lucky enough, kids.
