The Meeting…
Dave first saw me at a friend’s 30th birthday party in Balmain but didn’t approach me on the night because he “couldn’t find an opening”. It took another six weeks to meet since I was hesitant after he contacted me through our mutual friend (his facebook photo was a picture of a sunset!). Dave has a wonderful voice though and our first telephone conversation was very easy so I agreed to meet. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised when we did!
Love…
For me it was our first argument. I could see how passionate he was and he demonstrated this wonderful mix of strength and tenderness.
For me, Dave, it was a process. From the moment I saw her face I knew there was something about her. The more I got to know her, the deeper my feelings became. One night in particular she told me she was coming around to my place at 5.30pm. After several apology messages, she eventually turned up around 8pm. In waiting for her, apart from getting frustrated, I realised just how much I wanted to see her. That’s never gone away.
The Proposal…
Dave had planned a day of my favourite activities to be finished off by dinner at Bondi Icebergs… and I woke up sick as a dog! One by one each event got cancelled and he instead spent the day nursing me to health.
In the end, we got engaged on Chinamans beach in Sydney, a place that holds special significance for Dave. He arranged an extravagant picnic and we had a few bystanders cheering us on when the moment arrived.
Wedding Style…
I love purple so wanted it to be part of the colour scheme. Also, we wanted a relatively small intimate wedding.

Pre-wedding Celebrations…
We had an engagement party at Ripples Chowder Bay, and my Matron of Honour planned a fantastic hen’s weekend in Kangaroo Valley. Dave’s buck’s night was dinner at the Cargo Bar (International Passenger Terminal), followed by drinks at the Opera Bar.
My parents, brother and his partner arrived from Canada in the days beforehand so it was a really special time of celebration. Dave’s parents hosted a lovely dinner to welcome my parents. Dave’s twin brother also arrived from the UK with his partner. A few nights before the wedding, the whole extended family, bridal party and overseas guests, met at the pre-rehearsal drinks (Commodore Hotel).
The Dress…
I wore a Provonias gown (Pelicano model). My bridesmaids really helped me here! I needed a dress that wouldn’t overwhelm me and I liked the flow of the chiffon fabric (I wanted to have a train).
The lillies in my bouquet were selected by Mum to complement ivory roses with the help of a very kind florist at David Jones. The girls had bouquets made of ivory roses.
Wedding Decorations…
We brought in silver tiffany chairs to match the room. I wanted blush and ivory roses mixed with hints of deep purple for the tables.

Wedding Cake…
It was a two tier cake iced in pearlised champagne. It was decorated on the bottom tier with silver leaf and trimmed with a dark purple grosgrain ribbon. The top tier had a scalloped silver leaf pattern and piping. The bottom tier was coconut flavoured with lemon filling and the top tier was almond flavoured with mocha filling.
Wedding Bomboniere…
We gave chocolates from Belle Fleur. We discovered these at one of our favourite brunch spots (The Cook’s Garden in Turamurra).
Special Memories…
My mother having to run to David Jones to organise a bridal bouquet with an hour to spare! Having Roula there to do my hair since she had spent so many hours listening to my dating history over a glass of wine in her salon!
Walking toward Dave to a beautiful piece of music he selected knowing I couldn’t wait to get to him!
My bridesmaids sewing up my train (the loops broke) with a “bridal emergency kit” supplied by my mother. A number of tears were shed during the father-daughter dance.
