The Meeting…
We met 7 years ago in a hostel in Ecuador in South America. We were both backpacking around with friends and felt a connection with each other.
Love…
Gav is English but moved to Sydney after his travels and we soon picked up from where we left off traveling so I knew we had something special then.
The Proposal…
We got engaged in May last year in China. Gav proposed on the Great Wall of China whilst we were walking the track. It was such a surprise as I had no idea what he was planning! He gave me a book called The Secret Garden which the hostel we first met in was called. Inside the book he had cut out a hole and put the ring box inside to hide it. It was a truly magical moment.
Wedding Style…
We wanted something that was casual, fun and full of joy. Our wedding was in April just before Easter and I had an ‘Autumn peach’ colour palette in mind. As Gav is from England we wanted a beach setting to show off Australia!
Ceremony Venue…
Our ceremony was held on the patio at Pilu Restaurant in Freshwater Beach.
Reception Venue…
We had a beautiful lunch wedding at Pilu Restaurant and then all the guests went back to my parents house in Curl Curl where the festivities continued into the evening with supper, music and dancing!
The Dress…
My wedding dress was by Australian designer Rachel Gilbert. It was so unique and I loved the feel of it when I put it on. I knew I could wear it all day and night and feel comfortable but also amazing in it.
Bridesmaids…
My bridesmaids wore Zimmerman dresses in different styles and colours.
Groomsmen…
The groomsmen wore grey suits by George and King.
The Flowers…
I worked closely with my florist Dani from Blossom and Willow Floral Designs and she created the beautiful bouquets with David Austin Roses, succulents and native berries.
Decorations…
The venue was stunning with beautiful ocean views so it really didn’t need a lot of styling. We just had flowers in mixed vintage jars on the tables. The colours were white, cream and a touch of peach.
On the Menu…
We had a sit down meal at Pilu Restaurant and the food was incredible. For Entrée we had a choice of Yamba king prawns or cured pork loin with fresh nectarine, rocket and parmesan. Main was a choice of Cone Bay Barramundi or slow cooked lamb and dessert was profiteroles or panna cotta.
Our wedding cake was a lamington cake with fresh jam and cream which was delicious.
Wedding Favours…
I wanted to give our guests something different so found some miniature glass bottles and filled them with green rose tea. The tag read “the perfect blend” and also doubled as the name cards.
Memorable Moments…
Our wedding went from 11:30am-11:30pm so there were plenty of memorable moments but I think one of the highlights was when I was walking down the aisle and I looked around and saw that everyone I loved was in the one place and then there was the most amazing man waiting for me at the end. That memory will stay with me forever.
Wedding Songs …
I walked sown the aisle to an acoustic version of ‘Sweet disposition’ by the Temper Trap which was sung by Gav’s brother and sister. They then sung ‘Across the universe’ by the Beetles.
Our wedding dance was to ‘Home’ by Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros and somehow we ended up crowd surfing late in the night to ‘Smells like teen spirit’ by Nirvana which the band played!
Photographer + Photography…
My dear friend Martine from Martine Payne Photography was our photographer. I have always loved her work and the relaxed but intimate style of her photo’s. I loved that Mart could be involved in the wedding and it was so special having her there in the morning when it was just all the girls getting ready.
I love that Martine was able to capture exactly what our wedding was about. Joy, family, friendship and ultimately a big festival of love. Even though she is one of my closest friends she remained professional and gave us just the right of direction that we needed. I also love that the photo’s are so unique in that we had some beach photo’s in the day and at dusk when went to the cliff top near my parents house and took some amazing photo’s with the bush and water around us.
Honeymoon…
We are spending 10 nights in Bali.
Future Plans…
To continue living life to the fullest with lots of love and laughter.
