Eclectic Elegance

Modern Wedding Posted: November 10, 2011

Jayne and Matt first met when they both worked together. “There was an instant attraction but we were so very young that we didn’t get together at the time,” says Jayne. They were part of the same group of friends for eight years before love finally blossomed at a festival in a field outside Hastings, organised for a mutual friends birthday. UK based Photographers Jess Petrie and Martin Hobby captured the unique couple’s quirky wedding beautifully. The gorgeous vintage avian theme was inspired by their own eclectic vintage style. “To fit with the vintage theme we hired vintage tableware, I also made my own vintage teacup candles and cake stands,” says Jayne. “We bought a lot of extra bits and pieces of styling which were dotted around the venue such as the ‘Drink Champagne’ and ‘Dance on the Tables’ posters, from Wedding of my Dreams and the birdcages from Confetti which were used on the mantelpieces alongside some of the teacup candles. We created our own sweetie table by buying glassware from local charity shops and filling it with sweets!”

The bird part of the theme came about quite early on when I decided I wanted birdcages filled with flowers on the tables. This then expanded across the day. We bought miniature birdcages from Confetti for the favours and filled them with chocolate eggs. We also bought some bird pots from An Angel at my Table for the table names. We named the tables after collective nouns for different types of birds,” said Jayne. She made I made all the dressings for the tables as well. “I used pearl necklaces and bracelets from Primark to add to the table centres and to put on the napkins and bought lace from eBay and ribbon from Cox & Cox to tie around the cutlery. I also cut out hundreds of heart shapes from some old sheet music and a copy of Pride & Prejudice for table confetti.”

Claire Pettibone‘s individual, vintage-style gowns fitted Jayne’s own personal style perfectly. “I wasn’t able to afford one of the really indulgent designs so I plumped for Queen Anne’s Lace and then added a flower from VV Rouleaux in order to add a splash of individuality to the gown.” Jayne’s likes to mix high street items with vintage and designer pieces, so she did exactly that on her wedding day. “I wore vintage inspired shoes from Monsoon and a beaded headband from Primark partnered with a vintage diamante necklace that I bought at a wedding fair and earrings from my favourite vintage style jewellery website: Eclectic Eccentricity.” For the evening she added a nude feathered shrug from Biba.

Their gorgeous wedding breakfast reception was held at Sundridge Park Manor and they spent all day celebrating. “We had 65 guests during the day and about another 25 – 30 came in the evening. We had a hog roast for the evening buffet.”
