This Mother’s Day may feel a little different than most years, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have just as much fun. We’ve put together some of our favourite ideas so that you can still make sure your mum feels extra special this year.
Mother’s Day Brunch…
Start the day right with a classic Mother’s Day brunch. Whether this means breakfast in bed, or the whole family is treated to a special brunch, it is the perfect start to the day. Some pancakes, banana bread, french toast, smoothie bowls, breakfast bowls, and eggs are just some great foods to feast on! Treat mum with a champagne breakfast, mimosa or bloody mary to really treat her!
Gift Giving…
Unfortunately, if you are unable to deliver your gifts to your mum yourself this year, care packages are the way to go! Purchasing some gifts to send to her house, delivering some flowers, or even dropping off a package with pampering essentials, her favourite foods, and cards from you and your family, is sure to put a smile on her face.
Trivia Time…
Pull out your favourite games and spend a few hours with the family, battling it out in Monopoly, Uno, Karaoke, Trivial Pursuit or your game of choice that can keep everyone entertained! It is so easy to get other members of the family involved, with programs like Zoom and HouseParty. Both applications allow you to communicate and play virtually with your family and friends!
DIY Day-Spa…
If anyone is deserving of the ultimate spa treatment, it’s mum! Unfortunately, if you can’t make it to the spa this year, here are a few ways you can integrate a pamper session into her day. An at-home pedicure is a great way to treat and relax mum – pop on her favourite movie and do all the hard work for her! Running a bath, lighting some candles, and pouring her a glass of wine so she can kick her feet up and relax is another great idea. You can even treat yourself to some face masks together!
Candle Making…
We know that mum loves candles, but instead of purchasing another candle as a gift (been there, done that!), try candle making! It’s a unique experience that the whole family can participate in, that makes a meaningful gift you can keep! Choosing different fragrances means everyone can customise their candle to their liking.
Paint Date…
With so much time on our hands, this is the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill and get the whole family involved with this fun activity that mum is sure to enjoy! There are so many online classes that allow the whole squad to follow along and have a little competition on who can master the art of painting best. These gorgeous masterpieces don’t just make for a bunch of fun on Mother’s Day, but also a keepsake that you can hang and remember forever. Pour a glass of wine and get painting!
Bake-off…
How about decorating some homemade cookies, baking a cake, or making pasta from scratch. Whatever it is that you love baking together, share the experience as a family and make a meal together. Paired with a great playlist and some yummy food, this experience is sure to create some laughs and memories that the whole family can enjoy.
Virtual Experience…
Some of our favourite activities are unaccessible right now, but that doesn’t mean they’re totally off-limits. If you’re looking for a way to incorporate some of mum’s favourite activities, virtual tours and experiences are a fun way for the whole family to get involved at home. For example, virtual museum tours are available with London’s British Museum and the National Museum of Natural History in Washington. Walking through national parks in the comfort of your own home, including the Grand Canyon and Yosemite. Visiting the San Diego Zoo. Transport yourself to world landmarks when you explore the Palace of Versailles, Windsor Castle, Carnegie Hall, the Taj Mahal or watching the sunset off the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. This is a great way to bring the outdoors in!
High Tea at Home…
Create a classic high tea tradition in your living room. This is a great way to celebrate Mother’s Day, and is relatively easy to recreate in your own home! Simply grab some scones, jam and cream, little sandwiches or cakes, and a big pot of tea. Incorporating any of her favourite snacks and treats, like chocolate strawberries, is sure to put a big smile on her face.
Outdoor Movie Night…
End the night with a fun activity for the whole family. Setting up an outdoor cinema, grabbing a glass of wine, pizza, and a bag of popcorn, the whole family can enjoy the cinema experience in the comfort of your own home! Snuggle up with some blankets, a warm fire and you have the perfect end to the perfect day.
