Modern Wedding Posted: March 16, 2017

In order of appearance in the video above…

A Whiter Shade of Pale by Pocum Harum

Originally played by the British rock band Procol Harum, A Whiter Shade of Pale is especially beautiful when played on the cello with its haunting classically inspired instrumental melody. The song reached number one in several countries when it was first released in 1967 and has since become an enduring classic.

Prelude in G – J.S Bach

Bach’s Prelude in G  is the first of six pieces that make up Bach’s ‘Cello Suites, BWV 1007 to 1012’ and as been popularised with it’s use in pop culture. As the name suggests, Prelude in G evokes a sense on anticipation and excitement in the most beautiful way which makes it a prefect choice to mark to moment you walk down the aisle.

O nio babbino caro – Giacomo Puccini

O mio babbino caro (translates to ‘Oh My Beloved Father’) is a soprano aria from the opera Gianni Schicchi. In the opera it is sung by the character Lauretta to her father pleading with him to allow her to be with her love. Despite it’s backstory of forbidden love, the song is beautiful and especially tugs at your heart strings when performed on the cello.

Can’t Help Falling In Love – Elvis Presley

The king of rock and roll originally recorded this sweet song in the 60s and since then it has been covered countless times. Dave Loew’s rendition turns this ballad into an enchanting instrumental that will sweep your guests off their feet.

Wonderful Tonight – Eric Clapton

The story goes that Eric Claption wrote Wonderful Tonight while waiting for his future wife (then girlfriend) to get ready. This oh-so-romantic song is even dreamier when played on the cello – there won’t be a dry eye in the room!

Fields of Gold – Sting

Sting’s beautiful Fields of Gold was inspired by the view of the sun and the wind against the barley fields in his countryside home. The evocative and inspiring song is and is Dave’s personal favourite!

 Canon in D – Pachebel

Chances are you’ve shed a tear at a wedding to Pachebel’s canon before. This popular piece stands the test of time and is Dave Leow’s most requested piece for weddings. It’s such a pretty song so we can absolutely see why!

Moon River – Henry Mancini

Hepburn fans will love this rendition of the Breakfast at Tiffany’s song, Moon River. The strings make the song a little more whimsical, perfect for creating a magical atmosphere at your wedding!

Annie’s Song – John Denver

Annie’s Song is a folk song recorded and written by singer-songwriter John Denver as an ode to his wife. The instrumental is uplifting, sweet and heartfelt and so fitting for the celebration of marriage.

We love the touch of class and romance that instrumentals bring to a wedding, even more so when performed live! Dave Leow is an International cellist spanning a forty year career performing in Australia and Britain. He has now released five top selling albums, worked with legends such as Elton John and has been principal cellist with the Australian Ballet and Opera in Melbourne, the Melbourne Symphony and Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

His services for weddings include playing music for the ceremony with classical or electric cello and as a background performer at the reception reception. Want his next performance to be at your wedding? Get in touch and listen to more of his music here!
