Malissa and Zachary began their journey of love as children after a competitive run in on the playground. Years later, they chose to say their I do’s in a beautiful beachside bohemian island wedding
Where It All Began
Growing up in Florida, Zachary and Malissa met on the playground. From here, a love began to blossom. “Ever since our first encounter, we became the best of friends. Hanging out together with the company of his four brothers became our norm” explained Malissa. Despite later moving away from each, the couples love continued to grow with road trips and adventures always around the corner.
A Tropical Dream
Three years into dating, Malissa set off for her annual family Bahamas vacation. What she didn’t know is that her future husband and her best friend were busy planning a romantic sunset proposal. Whilst sitting on the dock to get her photo taken, Malissa was shocked to turn around and see Zachary on one knee.
We Are Family
Having both moved around and coming from large families, the bridal parties followed suit. Nine bridesmaids were dressed in handmade gowns in a variety of blue shades, each designed to their liking. Small floral headpieces with natural whites and greens were also worn upon loose, beachy waves. Eight groomsmen sported handsome navy pants with white and blue dotted shirts. The look was completed with rust coloured suspenders and matching brown belts and shoes.
The Blushing Bride
The bride’s fairytale gown was a A-line blush creation designed by Hayley Paige. The gown featured a full floral detailed skirt with layers of ivory and blush organza. A detailed back and jewelled illusion neckline brought a modern princess feel to this bohemian theme. Florals were kept crisp and classic with peonies, white roses and heavy greenery.
Team With The Theme
Having spent time living in the Bahamas, the couple wanted to encompass a theme which was inspired by their life. Their special day took place in Florida Keys with a casual, bohemian theme. “Just very relaxing and romantic…lots of different shades of blue with lots of leafy garlands and overhanging twinkle light right next to the ocean”. Standing on the ocean edge, the ceremony featured beautiful natural sunlight, rustic wine barrels and overflowing bouquets of greenery.
The After Party
What followed was a cocktail style dinner featuring coconut shrimp and a wide variety of Caribbean inspired dishes. Standing on the sand for a truly authentic beach side evening, dusty blues created a backdrop with stunning copper lanterns added for a moody element of light. Olive leaf wreaths trickled over the outdoor tiki bar with lights scattered throughout.
Boogie Wonderland
The newlyweds and guests carried through the night grooving to Island Beach Country tunes and a fabulous mix of 80’s and 90’s classics. “The DJ took it away for the dancing, everyone was having a blast. Even my friend who was bartending decided to do a Backstreet Boys solo which had the crowd dying!” A copper drizzled cake and white chocolate moonshine cocktails completed the night with a sweet end.
Words of Wisdom
Some advice from the newlyweds…”Think of the engagement as part of the entire wedding experience! Don’t let the engagement be about stressing for the wedding. If you can wait and save for a planner then do it! It helps!”
