Spring bloomed in the dead of winter, and we created sunshine in the middle of monsoonal rain, when we shot our bridesmaids dresses on location at Curzon Hall with Tania from Kavalle Flowers.
My vision for the shoot was all about the outdoors: fun, flowers, sunlight and gardens. We found a gorgeous location in Curzon Hall – managed by Navarra Venues – but on the morning of the shoot we awoke to the pitter patter of raindrops on our roofs. Lucky for me, I was blessed with an amazing photographer, inspirational and innovative team and really hard-working models. I wanted to share this story because at the beginning of the day, I honestly wasn’t sure we were going to pull this off. But the minute we all started working at it and when the rain abated for that first shot (which was absolutely breathtaking, by the way) I knew we were about to create something special.
Tania from Kavelle Flowers helped to create our garden wonderland, bringing enormous, flowering, shiny-leaved camellia bushes, lashings of gorgeous fresh flowers and the most amazing passion for creating beautiful bouquets and floral headpieces. “It wasn’t the best day for an outdoor shoot,” she laughes now. “We had extreme weather conditions, a slight drizzle at times and a downpour at others. Our amazing photographer Tim assured us that the conditions were perfect for taking photographs and he was right. I’ve seen some of them and they’re incredible.”
The hair and makeup looks were so natural and beautiful, they matched the entire fun, garden party theme perfectly. It was all about natural beauty and understated but gorgeous, glowing makeup. Garry Siutz created (and worked very hard to maintain during the rain) two looks that seemed to glow from within. Simply stunning. And Emma Attenborough wrestled with rain and wind to somehow create the most relaxed, soft, natural bridal up-dos I’ve seen in a long time.
“We were all under pressure all day as we made up the bouquets as we went along,” said Tania. Indeed, the minute we finished one shot I would quickly tell Tania what the theme and colours were for the next shot and away they would go in preparing the next set of bouquets. In total, we shot 13 shots on location and with at least two bouquets per shoot I was so impressed with how the ladies from Kavelle worked away, constantly creating new and fresh flowers to liven up our shoot. “Dear that’s a lot of bouquets!” said Tania.
“We had a fabulous selection of spring flowers to work with – ranunculas, joinquils, anemones, piris, violets, daffodils, hycinth – all perfect for the ‘vintage’ theme of the day,” she said. “It was an exhausting, but exhilirating day and I can’t wait for the next one.” Well honestly, neither can I!
