Chantel and Jakab’s wedding was set atop a cliff overlooking the ocean with a spectacular garden. Need we say more? Jakab proposed to Chantel in Bali, so it seemed fitting that they’d return to the island paradise for their wedding.

We first met…
We met online with our first date being at a Belgian chocolate café near the beach in Adelaide – and we both had a coffee only!
We knew it was love…
The day we met – after our online dating experience it felt like we already knew each other.
The proposal…
We got engaged in Bali the day before my 30th birthday. Jake made elaborate plans for a sunrise proposal, however I was onto him when he asked me to go to breakfast at 6.30am as he hates early mornings. Unbeknown to me, the venue had changed some of the details around, including taking the ring out of the box and hiding it in some rose petals – Jake was slightly panicking as he wasn’t sure where it was, I said later he should have asked me as it caught the sunlight so I saw it! We had a lovely celebration with our families and friends who had travelled over for my birthday.
Our photographer…
Who was your photographer and why did you choose them? What do you love about your wedding photos? Axxio was our photographer and we chose them because we absolutely loved the style of the photos we had seen. Our wedding photos caught every moment of our special day and we love everything about them.

Our dream wedding…
We wanted a simple and elegant wedding. Our theme was organic elegance and we really used the stunning venue to its full advantage – set on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean with a spectacular garden, we really didn’t need much! We accentuated this with fresh white flowers, candles and simple yet effective lighting.
Ceremony and reception venue…
Khayangan Estate, Uluwatu, Bali
Pre-wedding celebrations…
As we celebrated our wedding in Bali, we had a week of celebration with our family and friends both before and after the wedding.
The bridal party…
I had five bridesmaids – four on the day and one who was unfortunately unable to attend (yet I still considered her part of the day). My sister was my maid of honour and the rest of my bridesmaids are close friends. Jake had three groomsmen and one groomswoman. His brother was his best man, his sister his groomswoman and two cousins as his groomsmen.
The bridesmaids wore…
The bridesmaids and groomswoman all wore simple black dresses which were strapless and above the knee. They all appreciated the hidden pockets!
The groomsmen wore…
The groomsmen wore 3 piece suits.
The groom wore…
Jake wore a custom made 3 piece suit.
The dress…
My wedding gown was lace at the top and fitted to my knees, before flowing into tulle at the bottom. I purchased my gown from Caleche in Adelaide. I wasn’t sure what I wanted before the wedding, all I knew was I didn’t want too much fuss so I quickly ruled out all dresses with a huge amount of material.
Wedding flowers…
I love white lilies so these were a feature of our bouquets.
Reception décor…
The reception venue was decorated with white and green flowers, candles, single light bulbs and foliage above the dance floor. Gloriosa did the flowers and decorations and Butter Bali did our wedding cake, which was delicious!
On the menu…
It was important to us that our guests were well fed so we had canapés and cocktails following the reception. Our dinner was a sit-down meal with share plates on each table so everyone could try a little bit of everything. Dessert was cake and a gelato cart, followed by a satay cart for a late night snack!
Bomboniere…
All guests received a personalised fan at the ceremony, then at the reception table silver boxes with mints and hard candies.
Memorable moments…
Everything, we had the best day! For me, that moment of coming down the steps towards the aisle, I was slightly hidden by some trees but could see family and Jake at the end of the aisle, overlooking the ocean.
Wedding soundtrack…
We danced to All of Me by John Legend and Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon. The rest of our music was done by DJ Billy and really had everyone up on the dance floor.

The honeymoon…
We stayed in Bali for a week after our wedding and then travelled to Singapore. We are also travelling to Europe later this year (July 2017).
Future plans…
To be happy and grow old together!
In 40 years we hope to…
Be happy retirees travelling the world together!

The engagement…
Enjoy the moment as it may feel like the wedding is a long time away but it comes up very quickly!
Planning…
Be organised and have a budget. Have a wedding planner!!
On the day…
Take some time out together at various moments to overlook the day and reflect and appreciate together.
