Vintage Style engagement rings

Modern Wedding Posted: March 27, 2013

A friend of mine was on holidays with her beau (now husband). They were browsing in an antique store, as one does when on holidays, and she came across a stunning antique ring. She told ‘beau’ how much she liked the ring and casually mentioned that ‘it would be a perfect engagement ring’. Several months later ‘beau’ proposed with the antique ring and of course she said ‘yes’. The engagement ring was a little big so she looped it on a chain around her neck with plans to have it re-sized. Later that night the pair celebrated with their families at a local restaurant. At the end of the dinner the ring still hung around her neck, but as they walked from the restaurant along a short wide path to the car, the necklace and the ring disappeared.  Upon realising that the ring was gone when she arrived at the car, the couple and their families spent hours searching for the antique ring, but the ring was never found.

Aside from the financial loss, my friend received a new ring that she adores just as much and we’ve decided that the ring was cursed, a piece of bad luck not meant for her finger. We invented all kinds of stories to explain the ring’s curse – perhaps it was the product of an unhappy marriage, a proposal gone wrong or the ring of a criminal. I don’t actually believe any of our imaginative stories, but they certainly turned me off genuine antique engagement rings.

I still love love love the vintage style of an antique ring – delicate and refined, a vintage style engagement ring is perfect for soft feminine hands. Intricate settings and multiple diamonds define this style, but the good news is that you don’t have to buy old when it comes to a vintage style engagement ring. I especially love these rings from Larsen Jewellery. Unlike the rings of yester year they’re not storing up any dark secrets – they’re brand new and just for you!
