12 Steps To A Stylish Wedding Reception

Modern Wedding Posted: May 16, 2016

A wedding reception that is as unique and stylish as you are? No problem. It’s time for #wedspiration overload.

1. Perfect Place
You’ll spend the lion’s share of your time at the reception, so take the time to choose somewhere that’s elegant, timeless and reflects your personal style. If you’re keen to decorate with wild abandon, then look for a location that’s simple and understated. You don’t want your décor and the venue’s wallpaper vying for people’s attention.

2. Finer Details
The little things can really make an event. Details like linen, stationery, table decorations and bomboniere can make an enormous difference on the finished effect. The details can take time to get right, but they’re worth it!

3. In The Mix
Find a way to get people up and mingling: whether it’s champagne on the terrace or roaming dessert platters overflowing with sumptuous treats, when a group of people are engaged and enjoying each other’s company, it simply adds to the warmth.

4. Good Taste
Try to find the very best culinary experience available for your budget. If you can’t afford an amazing sit-down meal, then look for a sumptuous banquet option, or try scintillating cocktail food. Chances are your guests will be much happier with an amazing banquet than an average sit-down meal. Just make sure there’s enough to go around, you don’t want anyone to go hungry!

5. Full Bloom
Flowers are favourites for a reason – incorporate lashings of fresh blooms on every available space to imbue your reception with a sense of romance and you’ll be indulging your guests in an intoxicating sensory experience as well. Think roses, sweetpea, lily of the valley and gardenias.

6. Get Fresh
The fresh food revival isn’t stopping at weddings. Farmer’s Market-style fresh produce tables alight the senses and add vibrant colour to any space. Think juicy apples, peaches, ripe blueberries, plump figs and grapes. For a more substantial table, add an array of tempting treats like different cheeses, nuts, fresh bread, dips and a charcuterie-style display of artisanal meats.

7. Light of my Life
You’ll be surprised at the effect that fairy lights, festoon lanterns and candles can have. They add to the atmosphere, shedding gentle, flattering light that makes for a romantic ambience and exquisite photographs.

8. Sweet Somethings
Whether it’s a decadant naked cake drizzled with caramel sauce, a cake buffet offering a number of different flavoured confections or a tower of bite sized delights like macarons, tarts and cupcakes: not only will it make an incredible scene at the reception, but it will add a sweet end to the sweetest day ever.

9. Let Me Entertain You
Whether it’s a three-piece jazz band sure to ignite passionate dancing, a photo booth laden with silly props, a magician to amaze and delight or a fortune teller for a touch of mysticism, it’s important put a little bit of thought into different ways to captivate your guests!

10. Food For Thought
When deciding on a menu, it’s difficult to please everyone, but if you opt for simple, clean flavours that aren’t too exotic and plenty of fresh, locally grown, seasonal produce, it’s hard to go wrong. Make sure you have options for guests with food intolerances as well.

11. Make It Personal
Be it a first dance to your favourite folk song, creating unique personalised cocktails specially for the reception, investigating and incorporating inherited customs or traditions from your respective cultures and religions or asking your Nannas to walk down the aisle in place of flowergirls, a personal touch will always be unforgettable and stylish.

12. Surprise Midnight Snack
Combine catering, entertainment and the element of surprise by hiring food trucks for the very end of the celebration, when your guests will be jolly, but a little weary. Be it gourmet hot dogs, tasty tacos, ice cream cones or churros, delicious post-party snacks are the perfect crowd pleaser. Your guests will feel like kids getting a special treat!
