When it comes to planning your wedding date, it is most important to get the month right! Not only will it affect the availability of vendors and guest numbers, but it will also affect your choice of dress, wedding ceremony and reception. When it comes to settling on a date, choosing the month that works well with you and your partner’s preferences is beneficial from the start. Here’s how to choose your wedding month!
SYMBOLIC DATES…
If you or your partner have a significant date in mind, for example, an anniversary, this may influence the month in which you want to get married. If you met on a cold June night, but want to get married in summer, you may want to consider a destination wedding to achieve this. List any symbolic dates you want to consider first, then, go down the list until you reach one that can work.
TIS THE SEASON…
Another factor that may influence the month you marry in, is your favourite season. Are you and your partner beach bums, snow bunnies, or do you butt heads on where to spend most of your holidays? Maybe compromise exists in the spring and autumn months. Whatever the weather, make sure it’s what you want/expect on your wedding day.
DAYS OF OUR LIVES…
This isn’t really something you’d consider before you start planning your wedding. The day of the week can affect guests’ availability, as well as the costs of vendors on the day. If you’re having a small private wedding or a destination wedding that guests have to take time off work for, don’t rule out a wedding during the week, as a Saturday is the most convenient, yet most expensive day to wed.
CONSIDER YOUR BUDGET…
One thing you mustn’t do for your wedding is spend more than you are prepared to. If you are on a tight budget for your wedding, off months like March, April, September through to November are the cheapest as they aren’t as popular as winter or summer wedding dates.
A FESTIVE OCCASION…
Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter…if these holidays have special meaning to you as a couple, why not have a wedding on one of these dates and theme the décor around the holiday. Of course, be sure not to book a wedding for Christmas Eve or day…
VIP ACCESS…
Make sure your VIP guests will be able to make any date you want to set! Check with them to see when their busiest times are, so you can consider them in the decision. Of course, your wedding is about you and your partner’s love, but you want to make sure both your parents and family can make it before sending RSVP’s.
THE SOMETHING YEAR ENGAGEMENT…
Depending on the month you decide to get married in, your planning might be rushed, or it might be prolonged. If you get engaged in August and decide you want a wedding in December, there is either a 4-month period or over a year to plan. This can mean you are either rushed in your planning or you have to wait too long to wed. Be sure to consider the length of your engagement and the planning period when setting the date.
THINK LIKE A LOCAL…
Whether you want your guests to join in the local street fair, or want to make sure your guests aren’t participating in the charity marathon, consider your local events and programs. You never know, it may take your guests away from your wedding, or limit transport through a certain blocked-off road.
ACTIVITIES TO HOLD…
Depending on the types of activities you wish to hold on your wedding day, the month you get married will limit or expand your possibilities. Whether you want an outdoor beach wedding, bonfire, etc, you should choose a month or season that accommodates for these wishes.
IF YOU CAN’T COMPROMISE A DATE, COMPROMISE YOUR VENDORS…
If you and your partner have a set, fixed date that both of you won’t budge on, you must be prepared to compromise on vendors available. Because you’ve limited your wedding date, your dream venue or caterer may not be available. However, it’s all part in parcel with marrying on a special day that holds lots of meaning to you as a couple.
